Cool Kitty is coming home!

The vet tech called this morning and said Kitty is doing much better. She is out from the oxygen and is having no respiratory distress. She has had remarkable response to the heart meds and her blood pressure is almost in a normal range. Yesterday, the vet said that Kitty might could live a couple of months if she responded to the treatments, as her condition is considered progressive. I am not certain if her prognosis will be better since she has responded so well or if a couple of months is still her expected survival time. I have an appointment to pick her up at 3 pm and it is my hopes that the vet will be more optimistic about her future. Either way......she is a fighter and is not ready to give up yet! I am anxious to talk to the vets and see her for myself. I know none of this is good and that she is still facing an uphill battle, but we have today!

I asked the vet how her BG was doing...she said she was extremely high, but that they dosed her early this morning, so I could start her tid back when I pick her up. They are feeding her a kidney diet-- from what I researched it is ONLY 29 percent carbs! :shock: I will change her diet to a more diabetic friendly kidney diet and hopefully it will not take long to bring her BGs down.

Thanks to everyone for the prayers and positive thoughts for Kitty and me. We still will need them, but one day at a time--- and Today is Good!

Yay for Ms. Cool Kitty!! Going back to the Alley.

I hope she slaps them around a little more before she leaves.

After sitting at the vet all afternoon due to an emergency at the clinic, I FINALLY have Kitty HOME!

The vet was very happy with Kitty's response to the treatment. Obviously, the vet cannot guarantee me anything regarding her long term prognosis, BUT she did back off of the 2 month estimated survival. She actually said Kitty responded to the lowest doses of meds possible and that there was significant room to increase if necessary. She did reiterate that Kitty has Severe heart disease and failure. Kitty will return to the vet school early next week for follow up Xrays and blood work--- please keep all paws and fingers crossed.

She made me promise I would feed the prescription Purina Kidney food--it is only 24 percent carbs. She even asked me if I wanted a bag of the dry also! You all know that I agreed! Then I went to the pet food store and took Janet & Binkey's chart and bought some alternative foods.....just in case I decide to break my promise! :lol:

I also bought Kitty a Coming Home present! She now has a new custom made bird feeder--- I will put it up tomorrow, right outside of "her" sunporch!

My kitchen counter looks like Walgreens, but I was successful in gettting the first round of meds in Kitty with the help of pill pockets. She will be on all the meds for the remainder of her life. I am now Truly and OFFICIAL servant to the animals at Diabetic Alley!

FWIW-- Sir Chewy is now at +285 (11.5 days) without insulin! He was 108 tonight! Sorry Robin, no greens--- but I think he is a Party Animal!

Yay for Kitty being home! I can't believe they want you to feed her food with 24% carbs! Did you ever get any answers on the CRF board?

Petunia loves bird feeders.....she jumped right up there & grabbed a poor little sparrow while it was eating & she wouldn't drop it when DH tried to get it from her. He raised the bird feeder higher after that!

So will Chewy be officially OTJ in 2 days?
