My gut was right.....I felt certain that something other than elevated kidney values was going on with Kitty. I came home at lunch and did not like the way Kitty was acting. I called my local vet and had Kitty's records sent to the University Vet School's ER and off we went. They ran a multitude of tests and are still running them. Her kidney values were much improved and almost at the levels they were before her crash a week ago. She is still anemic, but her values have actually increased a point or two. BUT, they discovered that she is in heart failure. She has a lot going on that could be contributing to the degree of heart failure, so they will continue to run tests to determine the level of severity. I had just given fluids, per my vets advice, before taking her to the ER. Obviously, the fluids were not good for her heart and I have been giving them for a week. She also had extremely high blood pressure, which was not helping the heart either.
She is in the ICU and they are trying to stabilize her. When I left, she was in the oxygen tank and actually looked pretty good. Her condition is considered guarded.
For once, I am not going to research the condition, but instead sit back and see what happens overnight. I knew something was not right with Kitty and felt certain it was something in addition to the kidneys-- but, I didn't see this coming. I have always been so concerned over quality of life for all of my animals and Kitty has had a wonderful life. We have been a team and I will not let her suffer, but I will not give up on her until I know she cannot live a quality life.
I will keep you updated.
