Yesterday I made an appointment with the vet to see him after the practise closed, to try and convert him. I went in armed with a small tree worth of paperwork including Max's spreadsheets. I was so nervous, you'd think that I was writing an exam or something, I just wanted to make sure I had all the info for his questions.

Well, I was in there for an hour and half. He was blown over. I'm so proud of me and my kitty. He was really exited because the data was all there. he wants to send it through to a proffessor at the vet college that specialises in endriconology (hope I spelled that right) and maybe look at doing case studies of diabetic hometested kitties. Well, if I have helped just one more kitty get better, I'm over the moon.

I had a silly smile plastered on my face for the rest of the evening....and I told Max he is truly Mr. Supercat

Nice going! :-)

We've been OTJ for quite a while thanks to LL, so we've never posted in your condos (congrats for making it to the Falls, too!), but I thought I'd say hello since we're in the same country - we live in Hout Bay outside of Cape Town. Well done for converting that vet! We tried here, but ours was very staunchly of the "Dry food cleans teeth and your cat needs it"-Persuasion... Sad, really.

Anyway, in-country kudos from us :-)

Oh WOW...there is another one of me here!!! Thought I was all by my lonesome. So glad to hear The Emperor has been OTJ for sometime now, I hope that my Max keeps it up too. NIce to meet you Jane

That is so cool that your Vet was open to hear you out and willing to learn. Congratulations from Maggie and me. So now he knows about LL?

Great job! You might want to direct your vet to the research that's been done by Jacqui Rand, DVM at University of Queensland. I've attached one of her papers that's a larger study of the same sort of thing your vet mentioned. Case studies are also a wonderful contribution to the literature.

Thanks for that link, Sienne. I just saved off a copy so I can bring it to my vet (she's not exactly opposed, but a lot of what I tell her flies in the face of what she's learned...).

Congratulations on being OTJ, and for your diligence and preparation. Taking this to your vet may save many pets and their beans so much heartache and grief. It took alot of nerve to do what you did.

I am just getting around to reading this...it's the best news I've heard in a while. I wish my vet were open, but she is a firm believer in dry food and weird shooting schedules. Maybe if I brought in some research she would be more receptive. Who knows how many kitties you may have saved today! Heck, I'd be smiling for weeks!

Its so great to hear things like this since you know I am a vet tech who works for a group of 13 vets and none of them are converted at all <sigh>..... one of them sorta listens to me a little but as far as converting its just not ever going to happen at my place unless my Do Lou happens to maybe be able to go OTJ one day and then maybe they will look my way but for now they are too stuck with using N and their old way of treating FD I am just thankful for this board and for stepping away from my vets they are great in many ways but not in treating FD. WAY to go for having a vet listen to you :-D :-D
