https://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/continued-dosing-advice-sir-maximus.286177/ Good Morning Suzanne, I wish i would of known you were on 2 hours asleep the previous night. I wouldn't of reached out and let you got some sleep. I keep getting emails and alerts from commenting on Julie L thread. It says I'm watching her thread. How do i disengage this in my alerts? Thanks again for your help last nigh. Hope he clears the bounce soon and levels out in next few days.
Hi Shawn! Same here… I’m getting notifications on your thread. Trying to turn that off too… I just “unwatched” your thread. Did that fix it for you?
Every time you comment on a thread it will send you an alert whenever someone adds something to the thread - unless you unwatch it. In my case it’s useful or I would never see when y’all write something on your thread and are looking for assistance.
And there was no way I was going to leave you hanging with Sir Maximus last night. I wanted to make sure he was going to be okay.
Darn, he’s still in a bounce cycle… even though he is bobbling around a bit, but not much. I hope this time he won’t take 6 cycles to clear it! Have a good night though, Shawn. After last night, you will need it.
Hey Suzanne, I seem to notice at +2 he always goes up before he starts coming down..There are times he has gone down first but not many, I know it could be a food bump or maybe he is just has a slow reaction to the insulin..It be nice to see him get in a pattern where he is close to pre shot or 20 to 30 points lower at those +2 readings.
Hi there. I was just looking over his spreadsheet and counting his bounce cycles and trying to predict when he will break the bounce. I think there could be a small food bump, but really I think it’s simply that the previous shot is wearing off and the new shot hasn’t kicked in yet. So his numbers are rising as the previous shot wears off and it takes about two hours or so for the new shot to begin lowering BG.
Okay thank you..I was looking back over his patterns and that caught my eye.. I look at other members charts that our doing well and it seems like theirs goes down usually at the +2 reading.. Just wanted to see if i needed too change anything.. Thank you
Maximus wanted to go back to Disney World and ride his favorite roller-coaster today.. He broke the bounce and had a great afternoon but I'm stunned he shot back up so fast. Little confused and he probably is going to bounce again for 6 cycles..
I haven’t forgotten about you and Sir Maximus, Shawn! I am really pleased with seeing more blue today. I’m taking that as a sign of progress (that he didn’t bounce for six cycles!)
Hi Suzanne, Thanks for checking in. Ya i was happy to see the blues too, but hated seeing him go back up so quickly this evening. Hopefully fighting off the bounce of 6 cycles means he is getting better with experiencing those lower numbers.
It looks like Sir Maximus is getting too comfortable in numbers that are higher than we would like. I think maybe an increase to 1.75 units might bump him out of so much yellow.
Okay I will increase the dose but I have to do it Sunday so I can monitor him..Will be gone for a work event Sat from 2pm till 11.. Sister will give him his shot . Will look at his numbers before I leave and decide to skip the shot or do a full dose or token dose to be safe since she doesn't know how to test him.
Hi Suzanne , Was curious what you thought of that reading today coming off last nights readings. This is the first time the AMPS number has started off lower than the previous night readings. Have a long day today and will not be around from 2:00 till midnight. You think he is setting up for an active cycle? Have to prepare for what his dosage is going to be this evening since my sister will be given the shot. Will test up to I leave. Thank you
I would not expect anything too dramatic for today’s cycle— although I hope for more blue. That’s a fairly high yellow and he has started from a similar place before. Just keep your eye on him this morning. Cats have their ways of knowing when we have to go out and leave them — and sometimes they like to surprise us.
Okay thank you have a great day. If everything is smooth I will increase dose tomorrow to 1.75 per. He is the King of surprises and spontaneous trips to Disney for his adventurous roller coaster rides.
Yes he is back like a champ in the department. Glad i held of with giving him Miralax. Good info for the future tho. His shot times our 8am to 8 pm
Depending on his numbers today, I may not be comfortable with your sister giving him the full dose tonight. But if you will be home by +3 or so tonight and if she can give him a couple of snacks before you get home, it may be all right.
Okay, so unless he’s unusually low at +6 it should be fine to give the regular dose if you are back home by +3 -ish (11 p.m. or so.)
How bout if he is in blues at +6 he gets .0.5 if not maybe full dosage, or just to play safe with no worries just give him 0.5
It won’t hurt him to get a one cycle reduction to .5. It’s also easier for your sister to draw .5 units. But if he’s going up into pinks (which it is not looking like he will so right now) you could do the regular dose or just 1 unit.
Okay that sounds good. Little nervous because i think he is going down into blues at +6. Better safe than sorry. Always bad timing because i think he was on to a good evening cycle. Since i will probably be lower the dose, should i give him a few days to adjust back to his regular dose before i increase to 1.75?? Thanks Suzanne
I probably would at least wait an just do 1.5 units on Sunday and see how it goes. He may respond to the threat of an increase, cats just know!
And he is in the blue! It’s all good though. It’s a high blue and nothing wacky or steep is happening. He is doing great. Hope your workday will go smoothly. Our favorite black and white boy will be okay!
Hi Shawn. I cringed yesterday when I saw those blacks. I still would be more comfortable if we give him the 1.5 unit dose tonight and tomorrow and see what he does. How about you?
Yes that's what i was thinking too ,wait a bit till he gets back to somewhat normal after that dosage drop Saturday night. I cringed too when i saw that black.
Next weekend i have to work a Grand Prix racing event Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Going to be long days 7am to 6pm .Do you think I should wait till after that event , or just continue with the increase and adjust dosage accordingly when that time arrives next weekend? Trying to figure it all out so he can get his am shot. I will be able to give him PM shot. Probably have sister give AM shot but unfortunately he will be alone. Little nervous if he bonkers out on the new dosage. Whata ya think??
But you have enough time between now and next weekend to see how the new dose is working. You are talking about March 8-10?
Hi Suzanne, The dates our March 9,10,11, I will have have some time to monitor him from now till then.. How bout I increase the dose tomorrow am and we'll see how he reacts in next few days and then I can adjust if needed.
It looks like he's broken his bounce and is in blue. He could trend down toward PMPS, or not... he like to be tricky. I think in a few more days we will know more. Is he a happy guy today?
Hey Suzanne ya that high bounce was brutal but it looks like he is hopefully on a his way back on track. He's always happy, high or low as long as he's fed and and gets his long naps along with some treats and a clean litter box. The simplicity of a senior kitty at its best. Thanks for checking in
No unfortunately he's not a lap kitty but he does sleep in bed next to me... He has his moments, but likes a little space. He is lying next to me on the couch right now and just woke up from a nap and staring at me for snack time....
I think that, after this weekend we might want to talk about increasing his dose again. I think he’s making progress, but we may need to bump him up a little bit again. I honestly think that at some point he’s going to need a reduction after these increases— but he needs more opportunity to stay (and get used to) in lower numbers.
A better cycle today, but I still think you can increase. If you are not working this weekend then you can do it then. I only suggested after the weekend when I thought you were working those long hours for three days.
Poor Sir Maximus is in another bounce. This is really hard on you to watch, I know. He's due to break the bounce on 3/14 if he holds true to form. It's really frustrating that he only dips into better numbers and then spends the rest of the time bouncing. You are not doing anything wrong. I wish I had more comforting words to share about the whole thing. I was actually hoping to get him into some green numbers with the increase. ETA: He’s not in a traditional longer lasting bounce. I sent that message off too quickly. He is going blue at night and then high in the daytime. So let’s see what he does tonight. Hopefully blue again.
Okay ,ya thought he was going thru another bounce. Hopefully his body will adjust to the low numbers. Thank you
Let's see if he goes blue tonight on the 2 units. I think soon we will want to increase by another .25 units and see if we can get some green as long as you can do your usual excellent job of monitoring him. I would not recommend holding this 2 unit dose for a full 14 cycles unless you are going to be working long hours and not be around. He's actually spending a little bit more time in lower numbers, but yes, the hated high numbers are still there.
Well, he may not actually be in what we think of as a traditional "bounce" although the last few cycles his daytime numbers have been high -- if it is a bounce it is a mini bounce since the last two nights he has gone into blue. If he goes blue tonight again, that would be great.
Want to see what he does tonight and think about it in the morning. I wonder if he's going a bit lower (nothing too dramatic) after you go to sleep at night. I'm not saying to stay up all night or anything! If we look at his spreadsheet though, Shawn, it does seem like maybe some progress is being made with the blues at night on the new 2 unit dose. He may need a little more juice to see some green. Let's see. How is he acting? Happy? Normal? Eating well?
Ya he's been acting pretty normal. Appetite is good and is happy. I always wake up thru the night so try and get that +6 reading because that's roughly his nadir and gives me an idea of how low he dropped.
Good morning Suzanne , I have a 133 pre shot this AM . Should I stall for 30 minutes and then give a token dose of 1 unit?
I see he dropped into blue again last night! This seems to be his new pattern. I actually wish you had gone ahead and shot the full two units. But it’s okay. It looks like he was on the rise. Maybe the PZ will kick in before he starts to rise too much at +2.
Ya i thought about it but took the safe route since he isn't used to being low pre shot. You never know about him. He has a tendency to have big drops at times and didn't have enough info on him with this new dose. Gonna test him at +2 in 15 minutes.
Okay good. A nice steady drop so far. I am just really happy to see the blues today in the daytime cycle too and no pink of red numbers! I know you are too.
Hi Suzanne ya very happy and surprised. Caught me off guard this am. I just wonder if the full dose would of been to much. I was gonna shoot 1 but upped it to 1.5 which I'm glad i did. Going to have to figure out this eve what to shoot. Thanks so much
He probably would have gone into green on the full dose. Also, the reason he finally had a blue preshot is because of the 2 units.
So anyway none of that is criticism. I think it was a good move to at least shoot the 1.5. 1 unit definitely would have been too little. And we have seen only a few blue preshots on him before so I completely understand your hesitation. I just feel like you can intervene with food if necessary. Also, he’s been so stubborn with his bounces lately that I feel like he needs a bit of a kick to get him into green. You do a great job taking care of him!
Hooray. I just checked his SS again and see that 90 on there. I’m happy. I hope he will stay in green for a little while.
Remember, anything above 50 is fine. And he has had a slow steady drop over 4 hours and is not diving. So let’s hope a spoonful of LC will help him surf in green.
