? constipation, 2nd day

[Tosca]

My lovely Tosca was very upset yesterday trying to go to the litter box, with no results other than peeing. She was forcing herself, and crying,and then vomiting, and then trying again. And then in the afternoon yesterday she calmed down, no vomiting, but still no poo. She still eats very well (fancy feast tuna pate), very good appetite, drinks water, and she is the regular self, but no poo since yesterday. I called the vet and they have no place until Thursday, but they said if the situation deteriorates to try again maybe they find a way to squeeze in. They told me to give Vaseline, which I did, put on fur and she licked. I also gave yesterday and today a little psyllium flax fiber. I am nervous every time she goes in the litter box.. She hates going to the vet, she is always so stressed, and hard to catch. Today is the 2nd day, when is getting really dangerous and I really have to take her to the vet?

I’m surprised the vet didn’t suggest miralax. I’d try that and pumpkin as well.

I just saw in a previous post the information about Miralax, and just came from the pharmacy now. I gave her with food about a 1/8 of a spoon. Hope it works!!

If you can (and if she will eat it), it helps to dilute miralax in a bit of water and food… the more water the better, since that’s how it works (pulls water into the stool to soften it). You can definitely work up to bigger doses, or repeat this dose in 6h if nothing happens, good idea starting small.

+1 for pumpkin on a daily basis to help things move smoothly. I give mine one or two tablespoons of pumpkin purée with a freeze dried treat crumbled on top, they lick the plate clean. Really helps.

Miralax takes a little time to work as it’s quite gentle. I use pumpkin as well.
