Marshmallow hasn't pooped for nearly 48 hours. She's never had this problem before. This morning she was acting like she had a hairball so I gave her some Vaseline and she stopped clearing her throat but she still hasn't gone to the box. She's drinking and purring but hasn't had anything to eat since 9 a.m. Pacific time. It's 5 p.m. now and she normally grazes during the day.

I'm giving her pumpkin because up until recently she had diarrhea so theoretically that should help with constipation too. Is there anything else I should add? When do I get worried? (more worried than I already am, that is...)

I'm feeling a bit at my wit's end. Just when I think I have one thing conquered with this kitty, something else comes up. It's been constant for the past 6 months and I'm feeling like I have stress running through my veins instead of blood. (I'm sure she hasn't enjoyed the past six months either.) I'm also really anxious because I'm going out of town on Thursday for 6 days. I have a petsitter coming to feed and medicate her but she won't be around to monitor every new problem and obviously she doesn't know Marshmallow as well as I do so she won't necessarily know what's normal for her.

Check out Feline Constipation to learn more than you ever wanted to know about the Feline GI tract, how it works, and options for when it doesn't.

Has she been eating enough to have a bowel movement? Or did she cleaned out by the diarrhea?

She hasn't had diarrhea for a couple of weeks. I started her on pumpkin at the beginning of July and it was under control a few days later. The vet wanted me to keep her on pumpkin when I talked to him last week and he added the Budesonide.

I did look up feline constipation but I don't even know what I'm looking for. I saw that some sites recommend pumpkin which I'm already giving her.

Yes, she ate her whole bowl of food yesterday and most of it the day before so she has enough in her system to have a movement.

Then if she is now vomiting some, she may have an obstruction. I would suggest a vet visit as soon as possible.

We have lift-off! Poop has occurred! Phew. (And it was normal.) Poor Marsh, I've been stalking her all night. She also had a snack. I'll still call the vet but I can now wait until Monday to talk to the vet I like who normally sees her rather than taking her to a stranger tomorrow. This furball is giving me a stress ulcer.
