? consistently low BGL - not sure what to do now

We have been testing Trident's BGL for a week now - you can see her scores in the attached spreadsheet. We have rarely given insulin because her numbers are so low, and because the syringes we had couldn't give lower than a 1 unit dose, which just seemed too big, given her scores.

She has been eating a high protein/low carb canned diet for the past week, too.

Should we take her off the insulin completely, or should we try giving her .5 unit insulin? We just got smaller increment syringes today.

Trident's numbers are looking good, but still a bit higher than the normal range. The low carb wet food has certainly helped.

My thought would be to go down to 0.50 units AM and PM as long as the preshots warrant it. Trident is just at the borderline for going into remission and a little extra insulin to help might make the difference between a close to remission and a strong remission. If Trident continues with the same numbers after trying 0.50 units then she may be a kitty that normally runs a little higher. This is just my thoughts. Lets see what others have to say.

If you edit your Title line and add the "?" icon to the front of the title from the drop down box it should get more "eyes" on you post.

I agree with Mary Ann.....I'd try .5 twice a day and see if you can get those numbers down a little more

They're good, but not good enough to consider him in remission

It'll be important that you get at least a "before bed" test in on the PM cycle too....most cats go lower at night, so it's a good plan to check before you go to bed to make sure you don't need to set an alarm to get up and check later

you could go even lower, if you are really nervous about giving much at all, rather than skipping altogether. I used to give Sammy what I called "Needlejuice" Press the plunger firmly into the barrel.. hold, insert into insulin vial or cartridge... release. The "give' of the plunger will draw in a drop of insulin. I recorded it as a .10 unit. It gives a bit of support, but not much.
