Confusing numbers thoughts needed

hi all. Littles numbers have been weird the last few days. If you look at history so far for 2019 she’s been running high at AM AND PM PS with the exception of 1/3 and today. 1/4/19 mid day number +6 was high and 1/5 was really weird as she bounced up to 400s at +8 yet back down at PMPS. Today we started low for her (238) yet +3 is higher. (325) My gut was telling me to move her up to 2.2 units at some point this week since her lows are consistently not low enough but that was before theses curve balls occurred. Now I’m wondering if theses odd #s are a result of To HIGH A dose? Little seeems to need to be on a dose longer than a few cycles to see what’s really going on so she’s been on a FAT 2 for a week. Any advice would be appreciated

She has a history of having high PSs. That's her pattern at this point in time. I always say "at this point in time" because it can change. I think you're right about wanting to increase to 2.2 u. No, I don't think the dose is too high. Variable responses to the same dose are quite common.

Thabks Kris. So I shouldn’t be concerned about a midday jump to 400+ and then a drop down at PMPS? I guess I just worry that the high jumps do her harm but overall she is so much better in behavior, coat, jumping, walking and weight. She has gained almost 2 lbs since diagnosis when she was too skinny. ....

Focus on trends, not individual numbers. And those improved clinical signs are very important.

I agree with Kris on all of that: it's time to try a little increase, and also try not to worry about the PS numbers. They are awful right now, but they will get better. It's a marathon, not a sprint. It might help if you spend some time looking at other people's spreadsheets and see how their kitties have changed over time. Since our forum is rather small, you can go over to the Lantus forum and just start clicking on spreadsheets. You'll see that lots of kitties start with awful numbers and over time, settle down into healthier ranges.

As I'm sure you've read: it's a marathon, not a sprint. You're doing a great job with Little and she's getting some really nice insulin responses during the cycles which is promising that in time those PS numbers will start looking better. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

LOL...I just realized I typed the marathon thing twice in that message! Sorry for being so repetitive....long day today!

Thank you. I could not have gotten this far without the help of this group. I feel very lucky to have found you. I actually spoke to my vet today for the first time in a while.. since he was giving me advice that didn’t necessarily make sense. lol Anyway he saw my spreadsheet and was like holy *!#*. I let him him know it was the hard work of this group that put that together and he said he will start recommending patients to this site. Great job you guys have done and thank you all again.
