Baxter no longer needs insulin after about two months after first diagnosis. He lost pre-diagnosis to now about 4-5 lbs. as DSH tabby.

He had hypoglemica three days ago and threw up twice so we went to the regular vet who started to bring his blood sugar up, went to MedVet ER for a day and half then as of this morning, internal specialist vet said he no longer needs insulin and to feed him Purina D/M wet. Thoughts?

He has pancreatitis and the vet suggested the DM wet food would help and that it should be rechecked. Other than that, his heart has a murmur but is good; one kidney is smaller than the other but the larger one is working well, two bladder stones he suggests removing via surgery in near future and a slight thickening of the intestines which he can't diagnose unless he takes a biopsy via surgery (which the vet and I don't think is necessary at this time unless more symptoms).

Here are the percentage values for the Purina DM from catinfo.org: 39 protein 58 fat 3 carbs. Guess since it is so expensive, I can look for similar values in other foods? Tried BFF with him and he was so-so on it and lost 1/2 lb. so was feeding him Friskes pate.

What should I look for to see if needs insulin other than vomiting or not eating? I know cats can develop a need not to have it - unusual after two months? Other suggestions for food besides looking through catinfo.org chart?

You should probably do some home BG testing, are you currently doing that? I would also switch to Friskies or Fancy Feast pate style foods that are lower carb than Purina. Dusty went into remission after a few weeks so yes it happens.

With the bladder stones, you might consider feeding Friskies Special Diet Pates.
Make any food changes gradually, about 20-25% per day, to avoid GI upsets and food refusal.
