Confused about insulin that is best for my China

China was started on Humlin N 2.0 units and it didn't seem to hold her long enough, however her numbers were lower. But still I spoke with the vet and switched her to Lantus 2.0 she was on lantus when she was first diagnosed and it seem to get her into remission quick. However after using a week it doesn't seem to be working as well as before,her numbers always seem high expect may at 6 hours after injection. Looking at her numbers on the humlin N and her numbers on Lantus it seems that she did better on Humlin N. So my question should I just put her back on Humlin N or give the Lantus more time? Please Advise because I am really confused and concerned that her numbers are staying to high to long and afarid will start to effect her in other ways. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
 
Lantus takes roughly 5-7 days to show its dose effect on the first dose used.
It takes 3-5 days to stabilize on later doses.
The dose is increased based on the nadir, the lowest glucose after a shot, after the waiting periods above.
The pre-shot numbers only tell you if it might be safe to shoot.

You've had the 5 days on 2 units; now, please get some tests between +5 to +7 hours after the shot so we can evaluate how low it is going.

We suggest new users use 200 mg/dL on a human glucometer as a no shot limit until they have mid-cycle data showing if reducing that will be safe. Then, it may gradually be reduced to 150 mg/dL on a human glucometer. Any lower than that, and you should be posting in the Lantus Tight Regulation forum for reviews and feedback.

If you get a pre-test below your no shot limit, stall 30 minutes without feeding and re-test. If not rising and above 150 mg/dL on a human glucometer, unless you can be home to monitor, you probably should skip.

Could you please insert a blank line between the switch in insulins? That'll make it more clear when it happened.
 
Thanks BJ for the information, its hard during the week to get the +5 and +7 readings due to I am at work. I can only get them on the weekends. I might be able to get during the week if I get off work early enough. I usually give the AM injection at 6am before I leave for work,and her PM shot if needed of course is usually at 6pm. I guess I just thought the numbers would come down and stay down longer, because it seemed to work quick on her the first time, and with the Humliin N her numbers didn't get that high as they are now, or not as often as they are now. I just want to get her regulated and under control before any damage is done to any of her organs, I have been through that once with my other cat who was diabetic and never got her under control and she ended up passing away from complications due to being diabetic. I don't want that to happen to China.
So should I give it another 3 to 5 days with doing when I can the +5 and +7 readings.?

Some folks will set a clock to get some mid-cycle tests overnight.

If you do that, you may find it helps to let yourself sleep in multiples of 45 minutes, which is the length of the average sleep cycle. (Ex 6 hours = 8 * 45 min) Waking up at the end of a sleep cycle is generally easier than waking in the middle of it.
 
I just checked China BS and it was 76 and that's +9 hours after shot is this too low of a number? I checked it twice thirty minutes apart and got same number. She has never gone this low before is this safe number or to low?
