Concerning Callie Mae, Should I microdose?

Ok, I was late getting Callie Mae's dose this morning by almost an hour due to her ps #'s being to low.
I did a spot check at +9 and +11 and she only increased by 15 points within that time. She did just eat dinner, so I may be posting preemptively, but in case her pmps #'s remain low, should I shoot .5 instead of 1U?
I did pick up some U100 syringes at walmart today, so if you think that is what would be best, can someone find that conversion chart? I am going to do some searching on my own, I'm not a lazy mamma, but I would rather be safe than sorry in the event that I can't find it.
OR, should I just wait until she goes above 200?
Her +9/+11 #'s were 143/158
She's done GREAT today!
Thanks in advance.
You guys are the best!

Thanks Sue.
I am planning on waiting, of course, but I was just trying to get prepared if that is what I needed to do!
Thanks for the chart, too.
I did find it. I knew I had seen it somewhere, I just couldn't remember where. Information overload!!!
But, I surprised myself, I "favorited" it!!

Quick question concerning the conversion dosing. These syringes are marked from 0-100 and are "ticked" (line or whatever) in increments of 2 counting 10, 20, 30, ect. up to the 100. The conversion chart states for a .5 dose of U40 insulin I will need to fill the U100 syringe to the 1 mark.
My question is, which line would that be.

After reading what I typed, it made no sense to me!!!
I have included a picture of the syringe so you will know what I am trying to say!!!
Notice how it counts from 10-100 and there are 5 lines between each whole number.

Just a stock photo, but those are the one's I have

Ok, not a pressing matter for tonight. She just tested at 208 so I gave her 1 unit.
I would like to know for future use however, how to dose correctly with the U100 syringe.
I have a sneaking suspicion that Callie Mae is going to be needing a reduction in dosage on her way OTJ!!!!

Beachin those 100 unit syringes are super hard to use....any chance you could trade them in for syringes that have only 30 units in them....
I don't think you are getting half unit marks in that...and if you are, it's nearly impossible to get between 1/2 and 1 whole to get .75

you can get u100 syringes with only 30 units in them and clear half unit marks.
on THOSE...each line represents .2u... (this includes the half unit marks.)
soooooo 1 unit from the u40 syringe would be 2.5 units on the u100 syringe.
.8 units if that was the shot you wanted to give...you would shoot on the 2 unit mark.

Got'cha! I think.
I am going to try and return the syringes I have and see if they have the 30 unit ones. Does walmart accept returns on syringes?

Oh--and you can call me Angela!
I just tried to think of something beachy when I signed up, cuz that's where I'm from, but I think it's kinda stupid. And it's already been mistaken for being in a *not so happy* mood, which is TOTALLY not the case!!....lol

Hi Angela, I've been meaning to ask your first name :-D
yes i don't think it's possible to use those syringes with u40 insulin.
I use a u100 insulin and I could'nt even use them!

Hey Angela, I had the most HORRIBLE time trying to find the correct syringes. I don't think they will let you return them but it's worth a try. I tried to buy them at Wal Mart but they had people working there that didn't have a clue. Someone had a pic of the box on one of my posts but I don't know where....maybe you can do a search. It was a couple of weeks ago when I was looking for them. I ended up getting the 1/2 inch needle, if you are using the U40 syringes it's probably just like that one. If you have a bag that the U40's are in see what length needle you have. A lot of people here use the shorter 5/16" needle but I already struggle with making sure I get it through her fur so I like the longer needle. The bag I have says 29 gauge 1/2" needle length for use with U100 insulin 30 units or less. Even when I told the pharmacist that they still sold me the ones without the 1/2 unit markings so make sure you look for that. I think I purchased about 3 bags before I ever got the right ones. I finally ordered a box from Hocks cause I was having such a hard time finding them. The only ones I could find were Walgreens brand & I was having a terrible time with air bubbles in them. I was able to order the Monoject brand from Hocks & not have to contend with the people at the pharmacy. They looked at me like I was nuts or something when they asked what insulin I was using & I told them it was for a cat! I also had a problem with buying them, they wouldn't let me but a whole box unless I had a prescription. I'm gonna go see if I can find that pic for you. BRB

I found it but can't get it to copy so I can post it here. Search my posts....it was on April 21st & says U100 syringes. There is a lot of info there & if you're going to Wal Mart the UPC for the Relion brand for both the 5/16 & 1/2 length needles is posted. Hope this helps!

It's a lot easier to get the syringes from Hocks or somewhere similar (boo Hocks not giving a commission anymore!). The half-unit markings appear to be beyond the standard Walmart training class  from what a number of us have reported. It can be entertaining though to try to find them, and it will give you a good story if you can't.

Thanks guys.
Barbara, I will see if my walmart carries them. Some stores carry different things so I *may* get lucky.
I do hope they let me return them. They wouldn't let me buy just a bag or 2. I had to buy the whole box which has 10 bags of 10 syringes. :o
I don't see me needing all those syringes. I see myself needing one here or there, but not everyday.
I also may try walgreens. I am in such a small beach community and our walgreens has seen and heard it all. i don't think they would bat an eye!

Joanna,
you posted while I was typing. I would have to agree about walmart training. my brief encounter with the pharmacy clerk today enlightened me to that fact!

Funny....they wouldn't let you buy just one bag & here they wouldn't let me buy a box without a prescription!
