I just started using Lantus this morning. I am switching from pzi. Felix's blood sugar level was 438 at 10:30 a.m. I gave him 3 units as his first dose of Lantus and at 1 his blood sugar level is 466. How concerned should I be

Hi Madie, if you just started using the Lantus, give it a few days. Lantus is an insulin that is slow acting. When are you testing before or after he eats?

What was your dose of PZI?
Lantus is a depot insulin, unlike PZI which is an in and out insulin, so the depot can take a few days to get working. Also the 438 and 466 are within a meter variation so they're not that different. What meter are you using?
Could you setup your Signature with some information about Felix? :cat: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/editing-your-signature-profile-and-preferences.130340/
And if you're interested in setting up a Spreadsheet (SS) to track and share his BG numbers, the Lantus members will be able to help you more: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/fdmb-spreadsheet-instructions.130337/
How to understand the SS: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/understanding-the-spreadsheet-grid.156606/
If you are not tech savvy, don't be ashamed/embarrassed, just ask for help in setting one up. All you'll have to do is fill in numbers in appropriate cells :)

Have you read the stickies over on Lantus forum?
