Concerned -- Is this too low? Or bad pattern?

What insulin are you using??

If you haven't already done it, I'd just give him a teaspoon or two of his regular low carb food and test again at +5....he only dropped 14 points in the last hour so he's slowed down

81 is a great number...and a nice safe one too
 
It would REALLY help if you'd fill out the signature with the information most of us have there so we don't have to wonder about what kind of insulin he's on, what kind of meter you're using, what food, etc....

Just go to the top right of this page and find your sign on name...Put your cursor there and a drop down menu should come up. Choose "Signature"...a new box will come up. In that box put stuff like:

Your name/cats name, age, sex, date of diagnosis, type of insulin, type of meter, type of food, any other health issues? and if you want, maybe a general idea of where you live

Then you can put the link to your spreadsheet into the signature too...that way it's always there when you need help with dosing so we can quickly see what's been going on with Mister Mistopheles
 
Can you check again an hour after the 81 and see where he is then? What you're seeing tonight is that Mr. M is clearing a bounce. Notice how his blood sugar has been dropping all day long? There is a description of bouncing in the second post in this thread. It's a normal process for diabetic cats in the early phases of getting insulin.

I'd guess that the "event" that caused this bounce was the 117 test in the middle of the day cycle yesterday. He may have been lower than that prior to the 117, or it could have been the 117 itself that triggered the bounce. Cats will bounce from any range lower than their body has gotten used to. His blood sugar increased after that 117 until it peaked this morning at the 408 at amps.
 
I'm just now able to read all this. I am in the middle of updating the signature. I already updated the profile and mistook that for the Signature.

We ended up giving him a few more pieces of dry kibble and tested for a few more times.
Ok, so bouncing is a normal event in the early phases of insulin? What would you suggest to do after a bounce to keep the kitty okay?
On one hand, we think he was sneaking contraband so we don't know how reliable the previous blood glucose curve was. Today (Saturday) we have been trying to get him to eat different can foods. Hubby was afraid to give 3 units this morning so he gave 2.

Tonight, if the PMPS is less than 200, should we refrain from shooting? We are really nervous that he will have a hypo.

What did you do to get the links with words in the signature?

In your signature box, Type the words you want....Like "China's SS".....then go back and "highlight" them like you were going to copy/paste

When they're highlighted, click on the icon along the top that looks like a single link in a chain (7th from the left) and a new little box pops up....Put the actual link in that box and hit "insert"
