Coming off the honeymoon? help!!

I am posting this here as I posted it in the honeymoon forum a few days ago but nobody replied ...

Tiggy has been OTJ since December 23rd 2011 but I have been measuring his BG weekly since and its been varying around 70. However we adopted another cat a few months ago (a diabetic rescue) and over the last 2 weeks have seen Tiggys BG steadily increase from 85 now to 120 (since I saw the increase I have been measuring daily). I wonder if there is anything we can do to stop this trend of BG ?

And at what point do we put him back on insulin? Do we wait for clinical signs like peeing a lot or a certain level of BG? and how long do we wait at this big hBG level - i mean it could come down again if the cats start to get used to each other...

FYI today he was 150. Still going up.. Can we stop this?? Also he only eats Core Wellness canned food so diet hasn't changed. We are keeping the cats separate for now too, to try and reduce stress.

I wish I could help you but I can't. Simba went into remission in the end of 2006 and came out of remission during summer 2007. I didn't notice first though, because I wasn't home testing then, so he got started on insulin late. He has been insulin dependent ever since then.

One suggestion- could you try a different food to see if the Wellness changed? Something is up with that company. My older cats used to love the regular wellness and now they sniff it and look at me for something else, they won't eat it.

Make sure to go to the vet and check things out instead of assuming it is stress. Maybe new kitty brought something in that has Tiggy not feeling well in a way you can't see. Smokey HATED our fosters, but we didn't see that much effect on her BGs until she started getting into his food.

I seem to recall you can do a feeding test and see if the pancreas is working OK.
if you test before feeding, then feed, and then test again a short bit later when the food would have had an effect, you could expect to see a lower number from the food.

It's sounding like Tiggy is not liking the new addition; is Tiggy acting differently in any ways?
A checkup at the vet may be a good idea as well, just to be sure nothing is brewing because being sick will raise the BG as will some AB.

Was the rescue kitty checked over good for any illnesses? If not, maybe take the 2 of them for a once over and get a clean bill of health, including a little peek at the teeth.

Guess what? I think we may have a cause..our other cat has an ear infection and we are giving steroid ear drops to him (for the same period that Tiggys BG has been rising..) and during the course of the day some is running out and sticking to his fur.
Today I spotted Tiggy licking that steroid goo area of the other cat.... I heard steroids can spike blood sugar.. is that true? If so, now we have stopped him ( and do a better job cleaning the other cat), will Tiggy BG go back to normal??
