as my cat is old and she has gum/plaque problem. yet she is too old to have her teeth cleaned at the clinic anymore.
we don't want to gas her down.

some friends suggested colloidal silver.
is that ok with diabetic cat with pancreatitis?
also, they said it is better to use only for a few days, then stop as it can't be used for long. is that true?

thx

If you look up colloidal silver online, you will find that it is not a good thing - it turns people blue!
It is very dangerous, as far as I know, so I would never use on my cat what I would never ingest myself. You will find people trying to sell the stuff for everything from cleaning windows to curing hepatitis.

Better to ask for suggestions about other ways to get dental work when having fears of putting cat under for the procedure.

I have to agree with Gayle, don't give the cat anything you wouldn't treat yourself with. That said I have a friend who swears by this stuff for her dog. Colloidal Silver in the old day anyway, REALLY old days was used as a sort-of antibiotic. She would drop some of it in her dog's eyes when they got mucus or weepy and it cleared things up. I have some and I put it in small cuts and bruises. I personally am not a fan of using it in a beverage or ingesting - which is the recommended dose for humans. Just do your research so you are informed. Most holistic remedies just do not work IMO.

Please ask your vet about treating your kitty monthly with an antibiotic called Clindamycin. I do this for my 2 seniors who have teeth and gum problems and it helps them. If they develop a mouth odor, for example, 5 days of Clindamycin stops that.

Yes, we have a baby at work who was born that color. The mom was taking silver supplements before knowing she was pregnant and now I'm not sure the baby will ever be 100% normal. it isn't something thatI would ever take myself or give to one of my pets.

Cat,
You might also look into a supplement for dental issues called Plaque-Off. My vet recommended it, and oh yeah, it works. You can look it up on the web. I would not recommend the colloidal silver - no real evidence that it works.

Just my two cents - sorry I can't do more. Laura

Hello there,

Yes, the bad things about colloidal silver are true, they do turn people blue and poison them. This is what happens to people who don't know how to use it properly, colloidal silver can be used very effectively if done right, the same would go for antibiotics if you don't know what you're doing you could end up doing more harm than good. Colloidal silver was actually used as an anti biotic before we used things like penicillin. People who turn purple are the direct result of poisoning themselves from overdosing on it.

If you purchase a small bottle of this I highly doubt you will poison yourself, or your cat. I have given Jake (who is 16 years old) things like colloidal silver many times and had great results, and he's never been purple... cept that one time he got into the paint. If you do decide to get it, purchase it from a health food store and ask one of the clerks to talk to you about it, also use as it is directed on the bottle they will normally have a kids dose chart so use that.

Hope this helps.
