Coat/fur changes

Atticus was diagnosed at 484 on 12/28; been on 1u of Lantus 2x daily since 12/31. His weight has gone up and he was at 254 at his last vet check on 1/10 (three days ago). He eats all wet food now, and I'm going to be hometesting him starting tomorrow. We've been getting him used to eat massages and the clicks of the lancing device.
I was encouraged by his last vet check, and she says we may be able to lower the dose if he continues to improve. Before diagnosis, his symptoms were weight loss, poor coat quality, and excessive appetite and drinking. He's gained some weight back, and he doesn't seem to be as hungry constantly, and he's drinking and urinating less. His mood seems fine- he's purring and jumping on the bed, etc.

BUT: last night I noticed his coat seemed greasy and clumpy again. I brushed him last night before bed, but it was still like that this morning. And today when I got home from work, his fur is sticking up everywhere, greasy, clumping together, and just doesn't look right. What gives?

Ditto what Julia shared. :-D

The diabetes didn't happen overnight, and we can't get it regulated overnight. :o

With home testing, you'll better be able to "see" how the insulin is working and what dance steps to take next.

Hope to see some of his # posted tomorrow and then will know what he is doing with this dose. Maybe that will help answer the coat/fur questions for ya.

Just be patient when you start to test... warm warm warm that ear, offer offer offer those treats and lots lots lots of praise for that baby! LOL and of course let us know as you can see we are all waiting to see what he is doing with that insulin???? :?
