Claritin lowering blood glucose

I searched this board and only found a couple posts about Claritin.

Is anyone giving this to their diabetic cats? If so, have you noticed a significant drop in blood glucose? Was it temporary or did it continue?

I've also searched the web, but the only thing I've found is that it can raise blood glucose in human diabetics. No information so far about effects on diabetic cats.

Gus (my cat) has dropped from 230-270 at preshot to 133 at preshot. I cut his insulin in half and today it was 146 at preshot.

We tried everything to fix his itchy ears and nothing worked so the vet said try Claritin and this is the result. Even though lower numbers are nice, it is always cause for concern when it happens quickly like this with a new medication.

Out of curiousity, how much Claritan (generic name loratadine) are you giving?

Is it possible that Gus is heading towards being OTJ, and it just happened to coincide with the Claritin usage?

It could simply be that the claritin is reducing some level of inflammation related to his ear issues. That can affect bg values. Laura

For some reason I'm not receiving emails from this board as I used to so I have to check for replies.

I have another posting on here because Gus is having a severe bout of pancreatitis and possible inflammatory bowel. He is on steroids and antibiotics.

I think the Claritin reduced the inflammation in his pancrease. This is my theory and only a theory - not a fact. I'm doing research right now. Type 2 diabetes in humans is caused by inflammation according to newer research.

I'm making a list of vets/researchers to contact regarding what happened with the Claritin. Gus's BG went back up after I took him off of it.
