Hi All,

I posted recently about a cat - Gandi - that is in my care (and on my signature) but after reading a thread the other day about a diabetic CKD cat (some very helpful CKD related diet info) i thought i would ask a CKD specific question on behalf of my own cat, Liebie (pronounced Leebee).

All the diet research into Gandi has made me realise that the vet diets aren't so great after all so I am looking at shifting things around a bit for Liebie.

Is anyone here from New Zealand and have any info on phosphorus levels on commercial foods available here before i go seeking them out from companies? (mind you, most of the companies didn't get back to me on my queries about carbohydrate levels)...

Thankfully there are some Fancy Feasts available in NZ so i have been able to pull a few from the food chart by Dr Lisa.

Liebie has been on Royal Canin Gastrointestinal food both wet and dry for the last year or two but recently switched over to the Early Renal dry and the Renal wet after her CKD stage 1 diagnosis. I get that biscuits are not ideal but also that with a CKD cat it's best to just keep them eating. But i also realise now that protein restriction isn't necessarily the best, especially with early CKD, and she has lost 100g since starting the renal diet (she is only 3.1kg so that's significant for a little cat). Liebie is also hyperthyroid though that is well managed with medication, it does mean it's an added element of weight loss potentiality.

(Also, would it be better for me to make a new profile to ask about Liebie so I can create a different signature for her?)

It should be fine to ask about Liebie here.
Can you get Weruva cat food in NZ? On its website it has nutritional values for all its foods and you can look up the phosphorus levels of all the foods. You needs to look for food that is 250-200 mg phosphorus/100kcals.
Weruva also has a new line that is specifically for renal cats.

Have you checked out the phosphorus levels of the K9 naturals and the Ziwi peak foods?

I dont think Weruva is available here.
I have been perusing the Ziwipeak website but need to contact them to get the specifics. Same with K9. Seems the contents listed on packaging here is even more minimal than other countries!!
