Civvie with pancreatitis

My civvie, Scout, had an attack of acute pancreatitis in May and has had a recurrence already - not as severe, but still distressing. Does anyone know of a chat group that deals with feline pancreatitis? Thanks. Laura
 
Thanks - nothing new there for me, but I really appreciate your response. He seems to be recovering well, now - fingers crossed. Laura

Yes there is a group for feline pancreatitis...

You may as well gather all you can on pancreatitis as some cats are prone to flares.
One of my cats had frequent attacks and I treated with Pepcid 2.5mg twice a day, Buprenex for the pain, and sub Q fluids, at least 150cc/day. I did try to split the fluids to twice a day for the few days it took for the flare to pass.

Now, I learned one thing from the last vet I had, and that was to give B12 shots once a week, 25units, and it will help a great deal with the pancreas inflammation, which in turn will result in less flares and/or less extreme flares.

You can give the pepcid twice a day long term and it helps with stomach upset.

Gayle, thanks. So you felt the B12 injections were helpful? That is really good to know. We are going to do another ultrasound next week to see how things appear to be healing up - I will definitely check out the group you mentioned. Cheers, Laura
 
One of the yahoo feline pancreatitis support groups is great. I'll go and look which one. There are a few people over there that are very knowledgeable and post almost every day. My Vandow who crossed in March had chronic pancreatitis for a few years. Subq fluids, pain management and antinausea meds are very helpful.
