I found Vetericyn at my local "pet and horse feed" store....only 1 mile from my house.

Going to give it a try.

Don't even have to touch Rasql's tail.....she stands up----I spray wound on that side......she turns around-----spray wound on other side. No screaming/growling/etc. using this treatment.

I pet her head and give her treat after spraying....she purrs.

Keeping paws-crossed that it works.

Great idea. It sure would be nice if you could wrap the injury with a flexible bandage. It would keep it cleaner and probably help it heal better. Also would be nice if you had any broad-spectrum antibiotic to give her.

I really don't want to stress her out by trying to apply a bandage....I would not be able to do it anyway with no one to hold her while I did it. She stays in her "room" even though she can venture out into other areas of the house...so I am confident that the would will be clean without bandage.

that's great and let's hope it heals quickly.

so did you ever figure out how it happened?

Thanks for the "hope". :-D

I never figured out what happened. I have been wracking my brain and checking room where she was.....no clues.

I hope her tail heals up soon. Poor baby. My civvie just finished a 6 month quarantine for a tail wound of unknown origin. His was smaller than Rasql's, but he had two tendons that got torn out and were hanging out like pieces of string. That was freaky. I never did find out what happened. He is an indoor/outdoor kitty and it could have happened anywhere. I hope your sweet girl gets better ASAP.

Oh my.....tendons hanging out !!!! I would have freaked out!!!

That Vetericyn has been working totally awesome!!! She is now walking around with tail up in the air...not crouched in a ball with tail wrapped underneath her. I will keep spraying the Vetericyn on tail 3 times a day like I have been since Sauturday, until I see it more healed up.

I still cannot determine how it happened.

A few years ago, one of my other civvies (all my cats are indoor-only) acquired a damaged jaw. That was a rush to the pet ER. After $432.00, they determined a "left malalignment of the mandible". Got pain meds. Her mouth is still a little crooked....but has not problem eating dry food at all. After 3 years...I still am wondering how THAT happened!!! I am the only bean living here and I would NEVER do anything to hurt my kittehs.

I need video cameras in every room in my house so I can see what goes on when I am sleeping and/or not home!!

Glad to hear she's feeling a little better, that's always a relief :)

(lol @ cameras comment... I can't tell you how often I've thought that :D)

I am so glad she's feeling better! Paws crossed that she continues feeling better!

When that injury happened to my civvie, Doogie (who, btw, is the cat in my thread below about hyperthyroidism and weight gain--another mystery) I don't know how that happened either. We have a lot of firewood at my house and I truly thought the tendons were twigs that had gotten snagged onto his tail. That is what it looked like, very thin pieces of twigs. I was by myself at the time and didn't hear a thing, but Doogie let me know he was in a lot of pain. He has black fur so that made it tougher to look at it. I got a flashlight and the clippers and shaved off a tiny area of fur. I was tempted to cut off the "twigs" but I'm glad I didn't. When I pulled on one of them it hurt him even more :( and I could see it was attached to his tail under the skin. The wound was small, maybe half an inch, but I could see the insides of his tail, definitely below the surface of what Rasq has. So I decided this was too much for me to handle on my own. I didn't know how I was going to pay for this, but I was extremely thankful that my regular vet was open and that I didn't have to go to the emerg vet. It happened late on a Fri and I was going to get paid on the next Tues. I wrote them a check and just prayed that they wouldn't deposit it for a few days. Thankfully everything worked out ok, for me and Doogie. Unfortunately for him because he's an indoor/outdoor kitty and his vax had lapsed he had to do a 6 month quarantine. But he's better now except for this new problem of possible hyperT.

And as for how that may have happened to him, the vet said it could have been anything. I have another cat, Spirit, who doesn't get along well with Doogie and they have had fights where they needed to be seen by the vet. Their behavior towards each other was just so neutral afterwards that I didn't think Spirit had done that. Usually if one gets hurt he will try to continue the fight when they encounter each other again. That didn't happen. So maybe Doogie snagged his tail on something. I just don't know. I wish I did so I could fix whatever it was, if there is something in the house that did that to him.

Hi!
Glad Rasql is getting this spray & trust her tail is improving. This spray has always reminded me of being told by my mom to gargle with warm water and salt at the first sign of sore throat. I still do it & it seems to help!
Best wishes,
Sophie

Told you that Vetericyn stuff was magic! ;-) Glad she's doing better! :thumbup

That stuff is definitely magic!!!! By the next day she was starting to feel better. On Monday, she was playing with her 'mouse-spinner-toy' and walking around the house more (not kind of hiding in the laundry room). I still want to get a good look at it, but I can feel that it seems like a scab is forming....she still is a little leery about me touching her tail yet.

I especially like that stuff because it is a spray....you don't have to hold kitty to apply it....makes it less stressful for both of us. :-D

So happy she is doing well and that spray really helped, I may just buy some to have (just in case).

So wish she could tell you what happened :YMSIGH:

Thanks Hillary.

Like I had mentioned in one of my posts, I need video cameras in every room so I can see what they have been up to when I am sleeping or not home.

Your avatar (Maui???) looks just like Rasql.
