I woke up this morning to feed and give my cats their meds and my civvie with heart failure had passed away. I had just been writing about him on here for stage 2 kidney disease. My heart is broken.

To have a cat die alone, that's a feeling I can't explain.
It's happened to me too April, if you're feeling guilt please don't. We just cannot be there 24 hours a day. :bighug: :bighug: :bighug:

Thank you all for your kind replies. It was certainly not what I was expecting this morning but alas, here we are. I am worried how my other cat will handle the loss but I am hoping he will be okay and we'll get through it together. He is currently hiding under the bed, not his normal spot, so I'm thinking he's feeling the loss.

April, I am so sorry that Paws is gone. :bighug::bighug::bighug: Having a heart kitty is so hard, especially with CKD too.

I just expected he'd keep going, you know? I mean I knew he had limited time but I was in denial at the same time. I certainly thought I had more time with him.

I'm so sorry. We all hope there is always more time.

No doubt your other cat is grieving, as well. Gizmo would search the house looking for Gabby. It was heartbreaking.

So sorry for the passing of Paws. No matter how long we have them, it's never long enough.

Only good thing is it sounds like he may have just passed in his sleep. I've lost a few cats when I've woken up in the morning and they were gone and always made me feel better to tell myself that they just slipped away while sleeping.

Thank you everyone. This community is so thoughtful. Yesterday was extremely hard and I don't think today will be any easier.

That's what I was thinking but his eyes were open just a bit when I found him so I wonder what that means. Was he truly sleeping? He was in good sleeping position though. This is so hard.

So very sorry. Losing our fur buddies is just so heartbreaking
