Civvie diagnosed with HCM, looking for advice

Howdy all, hope everyone's furry babies are doing well!
I have a Civvie (Domino) that had an ultrasound done today and she has been diagnosed with HCM, Hypertrophic heart disease. She also has some moderate degree of lung disease (possibly asthma) going on, we are treating her heart first hoping it will help the breathing issues.
She breathes fast, it is still in the "normal" range, but is definately rapid. starting on Atenolol this evening, but I found reading online that a low sodium diet could help her. Any recommendations on a low salt diet I can try her on?? I really appreciate any insight, this board is such a wealth of knowledge on diabetes and so much more :bighug::bighug:
 
Hi. I don't know about a low salt diet but Atenolol works great on my Frankie. He started on the syrup, but once diagnosed diabetic he started on tablets. He was diagnosed when he was 2 and is now 8 1/2 years old. He has scans every two years and all signs of HCM are gone on the scans.
 
Thanks Sue :) The vet didn't mention anything about low salt, but I thought I'd be proactive. Your boys are gorgeous!!! :cat:

Gonna call my normal vet tomorrow and try to get a in depth game plan with her. The vet today was very nice and knowledgeable, but she's at a specialist clinic (CT scans, ultrasounds, chemo, etc) and I can't afford $150 a office visit on a regular basis.... :(
 
@Sarah Smith you don't have to go on a regular basis. Frankie started out going for a scan every 6 months. He only did that for a year until we found the correct dose for him. Then it was once a year, and now every two years. I have to take him once a year for my normal vet to have a listen to his heart and see if they hear a murmur and if they don't, off I trot. The diabetes has been a lot more expensive for me (or should I say, my insurance company!)
 
Sharon I am so sorry!!!!! My mind is in a hundred different places the last few weeks, I don't know what I was thinking typing it :bighug:
