Okay my civie with food allergies has been on Pred for about a month now and I have been checking his BG once a week and normally he has been running about 55 to 58. however when I checked him this morning he was at 98. Now granted that was about a hour after he ate breakfast. Although this is around the same time as I have been checking him since until he eats there is absolute no getting him to sit still for a test.

Should I start checking him more often or just write it off as a food spike?

Thanks Larry,

That was kind of what I was thinking as well but just for the peace of mind wanted to double check here. He is peeing more than usual but not drinking or eating more that I have noticed, since he is a grazer it is sometimes tell how much he is actually eating, and well the peeing increased at the very start of the Pred, so I'm assuming that it is a side effect of the pred. He certainly isn't losing any weight so I'll just keep doing what I've been doing. I have to take the drooler back to the vet today anyhow, (he fell down the stairs the other night and ripped out stitches from his recent neuter) So I will double check with her as well.

Tucker's on Pred, obviously he's FD, but I have found that by feeding him many small means during the day his BGs are not increased by the pred. I work close to home so he can be fed more often, 6 small meals a day.

Maybe feeding more often would help keep your civvie a civvie. I believe the pancreas produces more insulin when the kitty eats. I'm no expert, this is simply my observations with Tucker.

Well since I'm home all day with them, all the kitties here are free-fed Friskies Turkey & Giblets, I just try to keep a little something in their dishes all day long. Also thinking that this morning he may have also been just a little extra stressed out, since we had a nasty thunderstorm last night and he hates thunder. I'll just keep a closer eye on him for the next few days and see if I notice anything else being off. Just a little worried since he never goes that high normally but then again this hasn't been exactly a normal week either. As we have been having trees removed in the front yard before the winter snows hit. So there has been more than normal noise and excitement around the house.
