Fluffy is 8years old with severe arthritis in his hips and i give
adequin once a week and 3/4 baby aspirin every 72 hours.

He has paced the last two nights and looks up at the ceiling and moves his head back and forth
like he sees something up there. He goes from room to room doing this and his
tail is going back and forth like he is very agitated. His ears are moving like he is nervous.
He has done this a little in the daytime.
He startles easily now but has always been so calm(likes to sit in open window during
a storm)
My son came over last night and checked the ceiling and there is nothing there. He said that
it doesn't look like Fluffy is looking at anything...just searching.
Nothing else seems wrong with Fluffy except the pain from arthritis.

Has anyone seen behavior like this?
I'm taking him to vet tomorrow for bloodwork and x-rays.
Are there any special tests i should get?

odd.
fwiw, i have a couple that did something like this a couple years ago. they'd get as high as they could to the ceiling and reach and pick and meow......fiance was convinced something was up in the attic. he put a rat trap up there and sure enough, soon after, the cat's stopped doing it. so any chance something has moved into your attic? rat, raccoon, etc....?

You may have something moving around above the ceiling that Fluffy hears but you cannot such as a mouse. My cats go crazy if they hear something crawling up in my ceiling. It's amazing how well there selective hearing is. I can take a can of cat food out of the pantry and all 8 are there instantly. But if I call their names, they completely ignore me as if they are deaf.

My first guess would be something either in the attic or on the roof itself, we have bats in our attic from time to time and all of mine will do that, or they will get as high as they can and paw at spots on the walls. They also do it when squirrels run across the roof.

Jack, our asthmatic, once cried and cried and jumped up on the counter to paw at one of our cabinets. After shooing him a few times, we finally opened it up to show him nothing was in there. Lo and behold, we had a moth infestation, you know those little ones that get into flour and such? He also found some in the pantry. Cats have a way of sussing that stuff out.

I'm thinking you are all right!
Fluffy has been doing this at night. It was real cold down here a few days and i"ll bet
some little critter found a warm spot in the attic. It's rather spooky to see him
do this. I hate to think something is up there. I hope it's not human.
I do have racoons and no telling what else. I'll get the bug man to go up
in the attic and see whats up there and tell me what i have to do.

I was really worried the aspirin was causing him problems.
He is anxious all the time now and jumps at any little noise.

Thanks everyone!
