Picked Cinco up from the vet this evening. They did not give insulin all weekend, as his highest reading was 177. The vet and his usual tech were very pleased to see how well he's doing. Checked him after he'd been home for an hour and BG was 114. OTJ trial is underway!

See where Cinco's numbers are 2 - 3 hours after you've fed. The numbers at the vet are not OTJ numbers but they may be reflective of stress. Good luck with the trial.

Sienne: I am planning to do a curve tomorrow. I do think stress raised his numbers at the vet. What do I look for that will justify staying OTJ? Conversely, what, other than a major spike in BG, will indicate he needs to go back on insulin? Thanks.

she's probably gone to bed - but maybe she'll pop back on and answer you in the morning. i don't know exactly, but i know you want to check cinco's BG morning and evening still, and you want to see his BG after he's eaten. if the pancreas is working there would be a decrease in the BG a couple of hours after cinco's eaten.

hopefully someone will give you the exact directions, but in the meantime give small frequent meals and get a couple of tests a day in.

a non-diabetic non-stressed cat's BG are under 120.

We currently feed him "meals" of 1/5 can of Friskies every six hours. I've also been giving him snacks of 1/2 slice of deli-style turkey when I check his BG throughout the day.

We're planning to set up a feeder to give him a snack at PM +8 or + 9 as Jill suggested on Friday. We will check his BG at the time we would normally check it pre-shot, and feed him then as usual. I'll then check him at AM+2-3. My vet said anything between 100 and 200 is good, but I notice, as Julie says, that this site seems to prefer low 100s, so I guess that's what we're trying for. We had intended all along to keep testing him at what would have been AMPS and PMPS times. I'll post tomorrow morning after the +2 BG check. Thanks, all of you!

If you start seeing numbers that are consistently above 120, then it may be an indication that some additional time on insulin is needed. However, if you do get a higher number, give a little food -- about a teaspoon or so -- and re-test in 2 - 3 hours. The idea is to see if Cinco's pancreas kicks in and drops the numbers back down by producing its own insulin.

As far as staying on an OTJ trial -- green numbers!!

Congratulations! Wow, I didn't know Cinco was on trial.
