If you start seeing numbers that are consistently above 120, then it may be an indication that some additional time on insulin is needed. However, if you do get a higher number, give a little food -- about a teaspoon or so -- and re-test in 2 - 3 hours. The idea is to see if Cinco's pancreas kicks in and drops the numbers back down by producing its own insulin.

As far as staying on an OTJ trial -- green numbers!!

Doing a mini curve today (slept too late for regular curve :o ). Will test at +2 after his evening meal. Tried giving him a small snack (1/2 slice turkey) at +9 last night, but he didn't understand the feeder and didn't realize it was there until my DH went out to give him his AM feeding. I'll use his regular food tonight - maybe that aroma will cause him to check it out when it opens (of course, I have one cat that figured out how to get the top off and ate all the food at once, so I'll have to watch for that - Cinco's pretty smart).

His BG did drop at +3 after his breakfast. That's a good sign, right? He's really consistent - 114 last night, 128 and 115 today. Still blue, though.

Once he figures out the feeder, he'll go to it right at meal time (as long as you're setting it for the same time every day). My feeder also has the option to record a voice message, so Bandit hears me say "Here Kitty Kitty!) like I do when I give him treats. However, it's not even necessary any more because at about 12:45am (the feeder is set to release at 1am) he goes and sits in front of it and just waits. :-D

Tricia,
Human glucose meters can have up to about a 20% margin of error, so all of those numbers fall within that range. You'lll see small ups and downs that aren't a big concern. I would say, so far so good!

Just keep testing and be encouraged by numbers like this!
Go Cinco!!!
