Two years ago today, Chuck went OTJ. We were fortunate in that we didn't have a long road on our journey, although we hit a few bumps (vet induced hypo 3 weeks after diagnosis), but we had EXCEPTIONAL support and advice from everyone on this board!
Chuck tested yesterday at 98, which is a good number for him as he grazes most of the day. He's been in the 95-110 range consistently, only "straying" above 200 when he had an infection. He survived the catastrophic flooding in Iowa in 2008, when mom bean worked 60-70 hours a week and his care was in dad bean's hands. He survived dad bean's heart attack in November 2008, when mom bean did minimal care for Chuck and his civvy sister (dad bean was in a coma for 5 days, CICU for 11 days, and in the hospital a total of 21 days). He survived two more Iowa winters, 2008 and 2009. He survived a move from Iowa to Texas in December 2009. All these trials and tribulations with barely a hiccup in his BG readings.
His favorite thing to do now is sit in an open window and smell the fresh, East Texas air and bird watch. He's still my cuddle boy, and still jumps from the floor to my shoulder when I exit the shower every morning.
For all the newbies -- be glad you found this wonderful place! The beans here are wonderful, helpful, caring beans -- they'll hold your hand, they'll cry with you, and they'll be with you every step of your fur baby's journey!
