Having gone through cancer surgery with one of my civvies back in September, I know how terrifying this is. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

The surgeon said things went really well. She said the tumor was still very movable and she did not need to cut any bone. She said that she did not see any evidence that it had spread and she put clips in so we can radiate. Yay!! Good news!

I can get her tomorrow or Saturday depending on how Chicken feels!!!! :-D

Thanks, everyone! I'm glad it went so well! The doc will call me today and let me know if she is ready to come home tonight. I'm guessing no because she didn't have surgery until 3:30 p.m. yesterday. They said she'll be really sore because every time she moves her front legs, she'll be moving the incision site and the shoulder muscles that were cut! :o Poor baby girl.

Sue is feeling just great. He plays all night long. While I'm happy he feels good, sometimes I have to take away some of his toys because he is keeping me up at night! Silly cat!

I'm glad the prognosis looks good for Chicken (I love your kitties' names!).

Positive thoughts and healing vines... My little boy cat had one of his hind legs amputated last summer due to a malignant tumor on his foot and he's bouncing all over my house like a bunny now - hope Chicken is home with you soon and bouncing around (after she heals, of course!).

Many healing vines and snowflakes for Chicken; I hope her recovery is swift and any other treatment she requires puts her back in total well health. We've also dealt with VAS....it's great that you caught it so early!!! We'll be thinking of you all as Chicken gets back home today and in the weeks ahead.

Chicken came home around 5:00 tonight. She seems to be doing well...peeing, purring and eating! What more could I ask for 12 hours after surgery? I will be giving her Buprinex every 8 hours or as needed and Clavamox as well. She is sleeping peacefully right now. I'm sure she didn't get much rest at the surgery center with all the dogs, lights, cats and people! We will get the biopsy results in 5-7 days to see if it is feline vaccine associated sarcoma (fingers crossed it isn't). If it is, we will do radiation and then pretty much expect it to come back and start all over again with the surgery. Please don't let your vets used killed vaccines on your kitties and definitely not inject them in the scruff. I wish I'd known that before. Actually, my kitties are all inside and they will be getting no more vaccines.

so,i take comfort in that I haven't had my cat vaccinated in YEARS :-)
and i realize that vaccines are injected intermuscular..
we can still give insulin in the scruff right?
( i dont all the time, i rotate his spots)
just thought I would double check especially seeing poor chicken!
 
Welcome home Chicken! now you get better and make sure you get pampered and lots of catnip, hugs, kisses, scritches, and all the good stuff!!! make sure you milk it too!!! ;-)
 
Oh Jenny.....that is some incision there!! Poor little Chicken...I hope she enjoys her quiet sleep at home...how great that she is back. I wish a speedy recovery for her...and new soft beautiful fur to keep her warm soon. Positive hopes for the results too. So happy that she is home with you....sending hugs... :YMHUG: :YMHUG:
 
Chicken is a brave strong girl. That is some incision. I never would have expected such a procedure. I'm so glad you caught it when you did.

I'm going to check Maverick over tonight.

It really is one heck of an incision. My husband is still in Philly in grad school and he got sick to his stomach just looking at the pic, so I guess it's good here's not here right now.

Feline vaccine associated fibrosarcoma is a VERY aggressive kind of cancer that sends out little "tentacles" of cancer all over, so it is super important to be REALLY aggressive when treateing a suspected case. If it is VAS, it is very likely that even with radiation, it could grow back in 6 months or a year and we have to do it all over again. nailbite_smile Hopefully, Chicken will be spared all of this and it will not be VAS, but that is definitely what they think it is. :cry:

I just gave her some Clavamox and Buprinex for pain and turned out the light. She is in a small bedroom with a bed and heating pad, so hopefully she'll sleep until I get up at 5:30 a.m. to dose her again.

I really don't know what I'd do right now if Sue was still getting insulin on top of this. I think I would just run away!!!!!! :shock:
 
You're doing great. It's amazing what our kitties can handle. Gabby had major abdominal surgery after swallowing dental floss. The vet said to not let her jump. What was the first thing she did? Right -- she jumped up on the bed and settled in. To be honest, I'm not sure who was more traumatized after the surgery -- Gabby or me. We spent a week cuddling.
 
I'm so glad that Chicken is home with you, eating, purring and now resting comfortably. I hope the surgery was super successful and that there will not be a re-occurrance of the tumor.
Stay strong for your furry babies (well half furry for Chicken). I'm thinking like Sienne... I'd almost be more traumatized by the surgery than the kitty.

So glad your Chicken is back at home. Love is a great healer so I am sure she will heal up quickly :)

Chicken sure a big zipper of an incision there, but it's looking like the foods are much more important to him!

It's good to hear he's back home where he will be able to relax with his stuff and get some home comforts and loving.

Glad Chicken is home and doing well. It's amazing how quickly they can heal from things that seem so extreme. When Blue had his amputation surgery, I was shocked that he was still eating and trying to use the litter box - all those little normal things that we wouldn't THINK of doing on our own so soon after surgery... Ah... kitties are strong. What a brave girl - go Chicken!
