His muscles in his rear legs and hind quarters have completely atrophied and he can no longer BM or move anywhere on his own. The disappointing part is that we put a reasonable effort into making him exercise but the second visit with the new vet today revealed he lost all the muscle he had left. We have to give him enemas on a regular basis and rigorously exercise him frequently until he can begin to get around on his own...
On the bright side of things, the new vet had initially found Chewy in a severely weakened and sickly state with a faint heart beat. Today's visit showed a strong heart and that his diabetes is FAR closer to being regulated as he is steady in the 100 range. We are in the process of switching him to canned food and I'll update periodically with his progress. His current dosage is 2ml twice a day. We can lower or increase (with careful increments) as needed since we've begun testing at home.
Thanks again to everyone who helped!
Tips and suggestions for speeding up progress are welcome!
