I haven't been a regular on this forum as of yet. But about a month ago my cat Riley was diagnosed. I took him in because he had become so scrawny and finally would not eat. For Riley to not eat, that is a MAJOR alarm!

Well, after a month of Lantus, started at 1u twice a day he has gotten much better. His appetite has returned full steam. He is now on 2u in A.M. and 1u at night. He needs to eat alot. Understand that less than a year ago he weighed about 18 lbs and wasn't what looked to be obese, he's just a big cat. Big head, big paws. When he got weighed a month ago he was just over 9lbs!

He's coming back to form! His fur is smooth and bright, his general demeanor is back to his old mischeavous self. He still needs some more development in his hind legs as this area took the brunt of weight loss, but he's getting better it seems everyday. And his litter box is soooo much more manageable. It's good to have my buddy back, ya know?

Glad Ripley is looking and acting better. Are you testing his bg levels at home? That is the only way to really understand what is happening and whether his levels are coming down or staying higher than you would like. You could have a shot at getting him completely off insulin if you start tracking his levels.

Have you read the stickies on the Lantus forum? I think that Lantus usually works best with the same dose every 12 hours, not alternating between one unit and two. You might check out this info: viewforum.php?f=9
