Talulah's vet has just switched her to PZI, and we got the first vial in today. It was astronomically expensive relative to my income: $160. I would really love to be able to find it cheaper somewhere else... Does anyone have any recommendations?
You can buy it online with a vet prescription, but sometimes the shipping negates the savings. Search online for ProZinc; there are a number of places that sell it. You do need a vet prescription. Another option is BCP PZI. It is a compounded form of the insulin very similar to ProZinc in terms of its action. It can be in the $80 - $100 range. Some people think that the compounded insulin varies from batch to batch, but I've never seen any issues on the forum. It is only available through one pharmacy that I know of: http://bcpvetpharm.com/bcp-pzi-bovine-insulin/
Call around to your local vets! My old vet had it for $160 (starter kit with needles). My new vet sells it for $106 for a 10ml bottle of ProZinc. (Not the BCP PZI.) They might be willing to match a price if you find it cheaper somewhere. Try explaining that you will obviously be coming back for more so they will make a profit off each bottle you buy. Ask them to lower their price to just above their wholesale price they buy it for. Can't hurt to ask.
