Charly cont

She does tend to go high for a cycle or two after she has a yellow number. I hope to see more of those soon. We may need to speed things up a bit. Right now her body is just so accustomed to the high numbers.

yes its a bit of a roller coaster. she was calming down a bit yesterday and it was lovely to see here looking a little bit relaxed. but she is back to ranvenous again now.

green this morning?!!!

i tested twice to be sure. on different drops of blood. 5 the first time 4.5 the second. i've skipped the morning dose and fed her as normal.

will watch her carefully and test every 1/2 hour this morning.

into yellow a half hour after food

and slightly higher yellow after an hour

looks like i can stop worrying about how low shes going and start worrying about how high!

No tests last night?
We can’t tell if she had a late nadir or not. I would not have skipped the shot. Today would have been a good day to stall without feeding and retest in 30 minutes to an hour to see if she was already rising on her own. Then shot something based on that number. Some insulin generally better than zero insulin. I totally understand your reaction though, as we don’t have green on her spreadsheet yet and definitely not at preshot time. I am just worrying about how high she will now go today.
Sorry I wasn’t here. I checked in about 6 a.m. about 15 minutes before you posted.

no i slept through last night. she was looking quite sorry for herself and i wasn't expecting anything dramatic so i thought i would give us both a night off. lesson learned i guess.
yes no worries i know it is early in Georgia! i didn't really know what to do so i followed the instructions on the sticky post for low pre shots. at least i think i did!

yes shes back in red now. but i guess there is nothng to be done except wait for the evening shot?

Yes. We should just wait for the evening shot now. It’s all right. We will get her back on track. At least we know she can have some lower numbers now. I understand this was unprecedented so far and all you can do is try to follow the guidelines in the absence of other advice. The goal is to gradually shoot lower numbers and that will happen. I am thinking she will bounce again now, unfortunately. She definitely broke the bounce last night. :blackeye:

Now that she knows you will be checking up on her she will probably stay high. Ha ha. Actually she may stay high tonight and then go lower tomorrow night, unless we’ve reached a breakthrough dose. We can hope.

i have a feeling i might have given her .5 instead of 1 this morning by mistake. but i'm not sure. oh dear. i'm so annoyed with myself.

no i definitely didn't give too much. hopefully i got it right. i just felt like the syringe didn't move as much as i was expecting and i dont' remember checking the dose over and over again as i usually do.

its taken her much longer to eat her food this morning. shes not wolfing it all down as fast as possible as she has been doing. shes eating more like a normal cat.

and she has slept back in one of her favourite chairs the last few nights instead of on the floor where she has been sleeping but never slept until she was diabetic.

i'm encouraged by these small signs:)

It’s always a good idea to check before you shoot. It’s one time it’s okay to be a little OCD. We’ve had a few people recently who shot more than they intended to.

Seriously! Those are very good signs. With a cat those sort of things are really important indicators of how they are feeling, as you know. I am very happy to hear that!

i usually check it very thoroughly several times when i fill the syringe. then i take it to a different room to feed and shoot. I dont have a routine of checking it again before the shot. I will make sure to do that from now on.

She’s having a flat yellow cycle today so I think she will clear the bounce tonight some time. I’m call the pink 307 a “yellow” because it’s almost a yellow and then there’s meter variance— all her numbers have been fairly flat.

Slightly surprised by the red pmps. She's definitely presenting better today. She's sitting on my lap looking quite comfortable right now which she hasn't done for weeks.

That red is a little unexpected. She’s full of surprises though, so I don’t trust her not to drop on us. It’s always heartwarming when you get your cat back. Sometimes we forget how they used to behave until they start doing it again. We think it’s just old age that has made them change. And it’s surprising how you can see changes even before they are fully regulated on the insulin.

how are we doing? last two preshots are a bit disappointing. as you say she is full of surprises. i have no idea what to expect next.....

I checked her SS and saw the red AMPS early this morning and I said, “oh, bother.” I was disappointed. It could be a reaction to last night’s yellow numbers, or it could just be the previous shot was completely gone — allowing her to rise into red. I am hoping for better things. For now, we stay the course and wait on Charly. :cat:

:banghead: She’s on track for an increase. I am sure you have read the dosing methods. You test enough to safely follow the Modified ProZinc Method. If you do, we can go ahead and increase her by .25 at her next shot or tomorrow. We can then make adjustments to her dose a little more frequently, if needed - we can increase every 6 cycles instead of every 14 cycles.

ah. i was actually feeling mildly encouraged by the amps. its one of the lowest we've had yet! but i'm deducing from your emoji we should be looking for quicker progress. which would be wonderful:)

i've not read the modified method yet. I will check it out this afternoon.

read it now. all seems clear enough. it just a bit more aggressive. which hopefully is what we need. lets start tonight then.

Are you seeing signs of neuropathy? I see you started folic acid recently and that’s why I am asking.
yes i think i did mention she was having trouble with her back legs earlier. and shes getting quite wobbly now. when she is wobbly and looking everywhere for food she is quite scary to watch. i worry she is going to have an accident crashing of a table or kitchen worktop.

I see the yellow she had last night was a little lower than previous ones. I am going to take that as progress.

Are you also giving her Methylcobalamin with the folic acid? She really needs that for the neuropathy. It’s a form of B-12. I used this stuff called Zobaline, which is a small tablet containing both Methylcobalamin and Folic Acid. You don’t have to buy that. You can use them separately from wherever supplements/vitamins are available.

yes the zobaline is expensive in the UK and takes a long time to arrive so I am using UK alternatives I saw recommended on other threads here. we started the folic acid yesterday when it arrived and the Methylcobalamin the day before. I hope they will help. I really hate seeing her wobbling around like this.

yes. the latest low is the lowest low so i'm holding to that as progress too:)

shes giving off a much happier vibe this morning. i'm feeling hopeful shes not going to bounce for the next three days this time.

That’s good. She seems to be one of those cats who really makes it apparent when she feels better. Feel free to send photos of her any time It can take a few weeks see some progress with the Methylcobalamin and folate, but yes, you can buy any kind and give it to her. Are you mixing it into food or putting it into little capsules or what?

shes very slow eating her second meal. almost as if shes........not hungry?!!!

the b12 comes in capsules which im breaking open and sprinkling on her food. the folate is tablets which i am crushing and again sprinkling over her food

starving again this morning. calmer now after eating.

yesterday seemed like a good day. she was drinking less and looking more relaxed. even though the numbers look much the same as the day before.

i'm not sure. i'm possibly imagining it, but i just sense she is improving a little somehow.

sorry no tests last night. i set the alarm for the mid cylce and i did wake up but i just couldn't get out of bed to do it. i'm so tired at the moment.

i'm starting to move the shot time a little earlier each day. Im going to try and juggle some things around so the pm shot is earlier. This looks like its going to be quite a long project and i need more sleep!

You are doing a great job. Sometimes you do start to notice some changes in your cat before you can see a large change in their numbers. I think it’s good.
