Charlie's Spreadsheet -- Need advice on BG levels!!

My orange taby, Charlie, was switched to Lantus several months ago, and I've since been recording his BG readings. I realize that this is a VERY primitive "spreadsheet" (if I can even call it that)...it's just his numbers typed into a word document, but I think it's pretty straightforward. I just wanted to ask you all if you think he is fairly regulated or if his pre-shot numbers are still way too high?? Should I increase his dose?? He used to run in the mid 500's (pre-shot) when he was on Humulin-N, so there's definitely an improvement, but he's still far from hopes of being OTJ. Thanks for your input!!

You are home testing and have been really consistent in giving 1 unit of Lantus, so thats great.

You have not gotten any tests at the expected low point in the 12 hours - the nadir. Without tests then, it is not possible to accurately adjust the dose. We really need you to get some tests between +5 to +7, either at different times on different days OR by doing a curve where you take an entire day and test every 2 hours from pre-shot to pre-shot. That will show how low Charlie is going. If he is going below 50 at his nadir, he earns a dose reduction of 0.25 units, down to 0.75. This, you have to eyeball as insulin syringes don't mark any finer than half units.

You might find it helpful to use the spreadsheet we use on Google Docs (free - you just need a Google Docs account). It color codes ranges of glucose so that you can quickly identify patterns of response. The instructions are here.
