Changing to Wet Food?

Hey everyone!

So I've been looking over various threads on the site saying how it's a good idea to feed your cat a primarily wet food diet, if not a completely all-wet food diet. Lucy currently eats dry food every day, though the brand she has (Wellness grain free dry) seems a bit...moister than, say, Friskies (for lack of a better phrase!). We have another cat, too, but he's a healthy little guy so I don't think he'll have any problems one way or another.

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for the brand of dry food we should get? Or should we try to make our own cat food?
Also, any ideas on how to ease Lucy into it? At this point if she ever gets canned food she'll eat the entire large can if she gets the chance-which doesn't help either! Right now she eats maybe a cup of dry food a day, though 2/3 seems more accurate.

Thanks!

Yes! Young Again Zero carb food available at Youngagainpetfood.com. They will send a free sample if you ask. I credit this food with being instrumental in getting my cat into remission. It's only 1% carb!

Also ok is Evo Cat and Kitten in the purple bag.... It's 8% carb.

Dr. Elsley's just came out with a new low carb food bug I don't know anyone who has tried it yet. That's one last available on their website.

The wet food diet isn't just for low carb but also to make sure they get enough liquids in their diet versus drinking straight from the water bowl / fountain :). I knew Janet would jump in with the YA ;). I really am liking it too :). I would still give the wet food for meals and add 1-2T of warm water.

Oh yeah I totally feed wet food in addition and add a little extra water to it.... And have two water fountains going all the time.

Awesome! I'll definitely check it out. As for now, I took some pointers from what you two have said and just put a little bit of water into her Wellness dry-Lucy loved it! Maybe it'll keep her from guarding the water bowl all day ;)

As for the wet food. I think we just have friskies lying around. I know it's probably not the best, though I've heard better things than Meow Mix. Any suggestions?

If it's Friskies pate it's great! If it's got gravy just keep it on hand in case you have to steer low numbers up. Most of us feed fancy feast classic or Friskies pate here.

Don't leave the dry food with water out too long... Wetting dry food actually promotes bacteria to grow on it for some reason. It's OK to add water to wet food though.

That makes a lot of sense! I've been trying to make a habit of cleaning out the bowl more regularly anyway, so that helps even more!

Thanks so much for the feedback everyone, definitely know how to help a girl out :)

Yup, a lot of us use Friskies pate (non-indoor formulas) and Fancy Feast pates (think classics) and just add some water to those :). You can leave the wet food out if you add water, sorry didn't intend to say for dry lol. Don't leave the watered dry out ;)

JanetNJ, How long did it take your cat to go into remission after starting YA? I started my boy on it 2 weeks ago, although he eats less than 1/4 c. per day.

Her first day eating it was 8/5/16. Her last shot was 9/6/16. So almost exactly 1 month. Take a look at my ss and you will see the change in numbers very plainly. I put a black bar indicating when I started it.

That's amazing! I'll definitely look into it!
If you ask them they will send you a free sample. Youngagainpetfood.com

Your signature says she's skinny. This food is high calorie so it could help with that too.

I gave about 2 Oz of ff classic morning and night and then free fed young again.
