We just changed Petunia from PZI to Pro Zinc and her numbers are very high..Yesterday was 505 so I called the Vet and she had me add one unit to her dose of 1 3/4 units. Her BY today was 352 so it went down a little but not much.Is this normal for changing insulin??Petunia is 15 has been diabetic over 2 1/2 years a. nd only eats F2F Classics canned food.
Hmmm...I'm not really sure what is normal for moving from PZI to ProZinc. Do you have a spreadsheet set up? If we could take a look at that, it would help. We can see more patterns and help figure out how to dose with that.
Can I ask what dose you started the ProZinc at? Was it the 1 3/4 units?
I don't do a spread sheet.We.did.start at.1'3/4 units and now.We are on.2 3/4 units and it.did.go.down.a.little.bit to 352.We.do.not.test multiple times a.day because Pet u ? is.does.not tolerate this and.starts.looking her hair when we test.So much.I have been testing at +9 .Is this am appropriate.time to test??
While you work on the home testing, see my signature link Secondary Monitoring Tools for additional assessments you may wish to make.
Also, when you do have glucose tests to report, follow this pattern that is used in our spreadsheet grid.
Understanding the spreadsheet/grid:
The colored headings at the top are the ranges of glucose values. They are color-coded to clue you in as to meaning.
Each day is 1 row. Each column stores different data for the day.
From left to right, you enter
the Date in the first column
the AMPS (morning pre-shot test) in the 2nd column
the Units given (turquoise column)
Then, there are 11 columns labeled +1 through +11
If you test at +5 (5 hours after the shot), you enter the test number in the +5 column
If you test at +7 (7 hours after the shot), you enter the test number in the +7 column
and so on.
Halfway across the page is the column for PMPS (evening pre-shot)
To the right is another turquoise column for Units given at the evening shot.
There is second set of columns labeled +1 through +11
If you snag a before bed test at +3, you enter the test number in the +3 column.
We separate day and night numbers like that because many cats go lower at night.
It is merely a grid for storing the info; no math required.
If you want to give it another shot, instructions are here. It will help us give you better feedback if you can set one up.
