Hi ... My cat "Buddy" switched from Humulin to Levemir 10 days ago. I guess we don't have the dosage regulated yet because his bg numbers keep climbing ...
into high 400's. I'm extremely concerned about that and also another finding. Buddy's normal litter box habits all his life (8 years old) has been to "poop and pee" in the litter box during the night. When I switched to Lev 10 day ago I also removed dry cat food from his diet and he only gets fed "classic" Fancy Feast and boiled chicken for his treats after testing. (It's also important to note that he has been fed Fancy Feast all his life so it's not like he was just introduced to wet food.) He has not used the litter box at all in the last 10 days (and he is not going elsewhere in the house). He is an inside/outside cat (only during the day time). I have seen him pee when I let him out first thing in the morning, but I have not seen him poop. He must be relieving himself sometime durimg the day because he is not exhibiting signs of distress with constipation.
My question is, has anyone else noticed a change in litter box habits after removing dry food and switching to a new insulin?

I don't remember noticing this, but I THINK others have said the number of poops went down. (Quality in, quality out kind of thing  ) However, you do want to make sure he is indeed pooping. If you have some idea of when during the day, he tends to go, I think some stalking might be in order if you think he is pooping outside. Any chance he could keep him in for the day and make sure he does, indeed, go?

Poop quantity decreased at our house when the dry food went away. Less volume in, less volume out. :-D Urine volume decreased for us too, but before we started insulin, Max was of course over-hydrating and therefore over-peeing. And we were using Lantus, not Levemir, but I don't know if the particular insulin makes much difference. I suspect it is the food change that did it.

If it were me, I'd probably be celebrating not having to clean a box...because if he weren't going at all for 10 days, you'd definitely have a sick and unhappy kitty on your hands. But I would probably do some stalking too just to make sure that all is exiting the system as needed.
