Cats more hungry after UTI

Both my cats, civie Berta and my sugarcat in remission Prop just had UTI. Berta had it for a long time (4 months, we are thinking about idiopatic cyctitis), Prop for about 2-3 weeks. Prop had really bad reactions to the first two antibiotics (tribrissen and novoclav) the vet put her on, but after 10 days with baytrill she was fine again. Berta tried different antibiotics but it was also baytrill that did it for her. During the days where prop had the baytrill she ate less than usual, maybe around 5.3 oz, where she normally eats 7 oz. Berta ate pretty much the same while on baytrill. But now, just the day after they stopped the baytrill, they are both extremely hungry. Prop so much that she wakes me up at night. Of couse I am thinking hyper t, but just think it should be weird since both of them reacts at the same time.
So have any of you experienced that after antibiotics?
Maybe I should say that Prop has been in remission since feb. 2011, she has a normal weight, and her bg is below 100 all the time.
 
Antibiotics are not selective; they may kill off beneficial bacteria as well as problematic bacteria. They also have a reputation for causing nausea, diarrhea, and/or vomiting.

One of the things which may help recovery is FortiFlora - it smells like meat bouillion and has beneficial bacteria in it. Use sparingly until you see how it works in your cat - some may eat so much they cause diarrhea!
 
Prop is 5,2 kg (10,5 pound) Berta a little less. I live in Denmark, so no forti flora. But should i just feed ekstra for some time or let them go hungry?
 
Feed them. If not regulated, the body can't use the food efficiently, so the cat is hungry.

Can you get lactobacillus capsules or yogurt with active lactobacillus in it? A teaspoon of that can provide some of the good bacteria to recolonize the GI tract.
 
What do you meen about regulated, are you talking about diabetes ( because that is regulated with her being in remission) or dó you meen regulated in some other way? Thanks for the answers.
 
Sorry, yes I was meaning diabetes.

But if eating didn't happened much while on antibiotics, the cats have some catching up to do, unless obese.

Especially Prop eats almost 1/4 more than normal. She got me so worried that something else is wrong. But besides that she seems fine. I have had so many vet bills this year and cant afford to take her to the vet unless Im sure something is wrong. And she get so stressed, that i actually Think that is how she got the uti in the first place.
 
You said she was bigger than Berta, so that may explain it, in part.
She also may have a slightly higher metabolism than Berta

Finally, she could have hyperthyroidism. They do a blood test for that. The simplest treatment is methimazole, a tablet which may be crushed into strong tasting yummy food, compounded into an ointment that is rubbed inside the ear, or just give the tablet. Untreated hyperthyroidism will cause weight loss, high blood pressure, fast breathing, and fast heart rate. The strain on the heart may cause heart damage.
