Hello all. I was just wondering if diabetes affects a cat's vision. I know it can in humans. It seems that Snickers sometimes has trouble. It seems to me anyhow. She isn't bumping into things but when I put some food on the floor for her I have to lead her to it as it looks like she doesn't see it. Just asking. Thx.

It usually doesn't affect the eyes, but you should ask your vet to check his blood pressure, high blood pressure can cause eyesight problems, even blindness so is important that his vet checks him

I guess she'll need a check up then. She's been diabetic and on insulin for a little over 3 years. She's 14 y.o. I got her to the vet as soon as I saw her sucking water like a maniac and peeing right afterwards. I knew what it was so got her diagnosed fast and started on insulin and diet change so hopefully she didn't experience high blood sugars very long. Hopefully her other bodily functions were not damaged before she got diagnosed. Just curious about her vision though. Thanks for the answers!

Hopefully the vet can give you answers and it is something treatable. Fortunately animals are usually able to adapt to loosing one of their senses. My parents had a dog that became blind because of cataracts. You would never known it by watching him. He would run through the house and yard with no problems.

I don't have a lot of faith in our vet but my wife refuses to use a different one. When we took her there before for different things I thought should be checked out they always seem passive to my requests.
