I'm a bit of a newbie cat owner and I've noticed some changes in my feline friend lately. They've been coughing more frequently, and it's got me a bit worried. I was wondering if any experienced cat owners or anyone familiar with feline health could share some insights. Are there common health issues related to coughing in cats? Any advice on what steps to take or signs to look out for?

It could be seasonal allergies, bronchitis, asthma, other other respiratory issue. The vet can determine the cause of the coughing. Cats won't cough for the vet so take a video of a coughing episode and show it to the vet.

If it's seasonal allergies, try using air purifiers in the home and keeping windows closed when pollen is very high. The vet may prescribe allergy medicine.

A classic sign of asthma is crouching low to the floor and sticking the neck way out while coughing / honking. There are diagnostic tests the vet can do to determine asthma. Treatment may be inhaled medicine or steroids. Some of the things that help people with asthma are also helpful to cats such as using air purifiers, limiting scented things in the home, vacuuming and dusting often, etc.
