Cat waking me up at the crack of dawn

Hi,
Every day at 7 am my alarm goes off and I get up to test/feed/shoot Misty. However, I guess she has learned that when I wake up she gets food, so she's taken to sitting right by my head and meowing right into my ear as early as 6 am. Removing her from the bed or bedroom doesn't help, she will just meow louder. Can't confine her to a different part of the house either, as I live in a 700 sq ft apartment and can hear her from anywhere.
She was underweight at diagnosis but has gotten back to a healthy weight. She still gets double the recommended amount of food daily, yet begs for food starting at least 30 minutes before every mealtime.
I have an autofeeder set to +3 and +6 every cycle too.
Does anyone know what I can do? I really need my precious sleep :(

How about setting the autofeeder to give her a snack at +8 or+9 as well so that there isn't a long gap between her last meal and AMPS? Smaller meals every 2-3 hours works better for diabetic cats. Unregulated diabetic caats cannot process their food and are constantly hungry. As they see better numbers the constant hunger reduces.

I will try doing a snack at +9 too. Should I give the same amount of food but split it into three portions instead of two, or add more food for the third snack? (if that makes sense)
Also, should I always be linking my most recent thread to a new one, even if the topics aren't related?
Thank you Bhooma!

It depends om whether Misty needs to gain, lose or maintain her weight. If you are already feeding her as many calories as she needs in a day, just break up the existing food into smaller meals through the day and night.

That's actually something we do in the Lantus forum. Helps us look back at history. It's not necessary here. Old habits die hard. LOL.

I'm also in a tiny apartment and my cat is a morning food bully too. :cat: And he paws at and scoots around his auto feeder loud enough that it also wakes me up. The only thing that works is me going to bed earlier so I can get more sleep. And sometimes if hide completely under the covers he will give up for awhile. :banghead:

Tyler can be relentless, he does the same thing around 2 or 3 in the morning
Paws my face, won't stop meowing, then eventually will bite my hair and pull it
They are something else aren't they, but gotta love them :cat:

Haha sounds like my girl too!

I tried this too...the cat just laid down on top of where my head was which made breathing impossible...LOL

Misty will headbutt my face until I get up. LOL

Lol Nico loves to sneak up on me at 3AM and start purring... If I don't acknowledge him, he slowly paws at the covers over my head to pull them off so he can lick my face. :cat:

I ended up getting a Petmate 3 course feeder. I didn't need anything extravagant, just something to wane the 3AM kitty wake up calls!! I have it set to go off at midnight. Plus he gets an evening snack at 8 pm ( he never really eats a lot, maybe a quarter of a 3oz can). This has helped tremendously!

Mocha was relentless. I could feel his stare & if I dare open my eyes he'd meow as loud as possible in my face. He'd do the same thing to my husband always 3am on the dot! And it wasn't even that he was hungry. He's just an attention seeker. Closing the door was not an option as he'd push on it & meow incessantly until we opened it. Eventually we put the cats away in a bedroom (which they hated) until I finally found a baby gate that worked perfectly. They still haven't figured out that they are cats and are perfectly capable of jumping over the 36" gate.

The cats have the run of the house and we are left with just the master bedroom side but at least they can't get near the door & wake us up. Basically they own the house and we are just their house guests.

I know this doesn't help in your situation, but maybe someone with a larger house can relate. The baby gate is actually a screen that retracts so it's easy to open & close. I can't believe it took me 10 years to find it!

I'll keep that in mind, I'm looking to buy a home fairly soon so it might be a future solution!
