Hey guys, I have noticed for the last 2 days that Bubba's poop color has gone from dark brown to a dark tan color. Consistency is fine,no food changes, eating and drinking normally, activity level the same. Hope I don't have another issue with him as his numbers aren't going out of the 200's even after increasing his insulin a few days ago. Any ideas?

Any change in his food at all last couple of days?

Oops, see you already said that. It could just be a blip, Bobbie. I wouldn't worry about it unless it goes/ stays really pale - in that case, you might want his liver enzymes checked out.

thx Robin,I was kinda thinking liver.....hope not. They just did a panel on him the end of May when he was diagnosed with Diabetes. Fingers and Paws crossed.

Pancreatitis can cause tan stools due to lack of pancreatic enzymes (and also pale, ashen stools during severe flares or if the cat has exocrine pancreatic insufficiency).

It could just be a digestive upset. Sometimes a particular can or pouch of food might disagree with a cat's tum. My civvie occasionally produces a whiffy, squidgy stool but she's usually fine immediately after.

You weren't feeding any pumpkin by any chance, Bobbie? That definitely affects the colour of Saoirse's stools.

Hi Critter Mom, no pumpkin. He seems fine except the color. Hope it's a passing thing, it has me a bit concerned.

Just had a look at Bobbie's spreadsheet. Meters can tell us much more than how well our little ones are doing on insulin. I'd suggest monitoring his clinical signs closely over the weekend to see if you can spot anything unusual. If nothing changes I'd suggest a trip to the vetty bean early next week to get a check-up. Fingers and paws crossed that it's just a transient tummy upset.

Thanks ~ will do.

Colitis can also cause pale stools. But you would know if it were colitis as the odor is terrible and there would be mucus and or a little blood in the stool
No mucus, no stinky, and perfectly formed. Of course this morning there was nothing in the box for me to inspect because Mr poo -puss was outside for 4 hours last night. I thought for sure when he came home at the +4 that he would be high from eating small game but, he was lower than he's been at that point in a while......go figure. Hoping he will give me something to look at tonight. Thanks for your input Anita. :cat:

Hey...even we humans have differing colours. A lighter colour stool can also just mean that it passed more quickly than usual and didn't get time to turn a darker brown. Or it could be just a difference in batches of food. Even though on the same food, sometimes the formulation is a bit different.

Without any other signs....I wouldn't get worked up over it. I'm sure that before the diabetes dx, you wouldn't have noticed the change of colour. :)

Relax a bit and just wait and see but, as long as there's no other symptoms happening, just a watchful eye. Of course, if it's driving you nuts with worry, a call to your vet after another movement (IF it's not to your liking) might put your mind at ease. I don't think it's going to be necessary though, given what you've said so, try to just relax. :)

I think you are right LouEllenn. I am a worry wart by nature. And he seems perfectly fine otherwise. If anyone out in FDMB needs something to be worried about, I am you gal!
