Cat not Eating

I’m very sorry to hear none of the vets have been able to help. Did they do an ultrasound to check for IBD? Did they run a pancreatitis test? Are you still giving her insulin, what insulin and how much?

Is she still on anti nausea meds? If she’s nauseated, she needs daily anti nausea meds like Cerenia and/or Ondansetron.

Are you able to test her blood glucose levels? Are you able to get urine test strips to test for ketones? If she's not eating, are you giving her insulin?

Sorry for the questions but an infection, not enough calories, and not enough insulin is a recipe for ketones developing. A cat that's staggering is worrisome. If it were my kitty, I'd be considering heading to the emergency vet.

This is a link to our reference post on ways to stimulate a kitty's appetite.

I agree with Sienne.
Are you checking the blood glucose and ketones? With not eating she could have a low blood glucose and with not eating she could have ketones in the urine. Both need dealing with asap. Don’t just wait and see.
Is she having an antibiotic for the UTI?
When did you last give her an antinausea medication? .
Offer her whatever she will eat at the moment. Don’t worry if it is not suitable for a diabetic cat. Eating is much more important than what she eats at this point.

I would take her back to the vet if she were my cat.

She is on an antibiotic for the UTI, we don't have anti-nausea. Also ketones were tested for 2-3 times and she does not have them. The vets have not helped and we've spent an insane amount of money on her so far, they've overcharged for everything, so I really don't know what taking her back to the vet will do, as they're not helping her. We have not been able to give her insulin because she's not eating as per both vet's reccomendation, and because after her episode her levels were within normal range for half the week without it. We were able to give her one unit of insulin today as per vet reccomendation today, but she usually takes much more.

Also she will not eat anything, literally anything at all. Even treats she should love.

It's so frustrating and I've been searching online all day for answers, literally nothing lines up with her symptoms. We have spent so much at the vets and they have not helped her.

No insulin and no food can mean ketones as mentioned so you need to test for it daily because they can develop at any point in time. You should mix some wet food with water and start syringe feeding her to get some food into her. She needs daily anti nausea meds so please call either vet and ask for a prenscription. Cerenia you have to get from a vet or pet pharmacy but ondansetron is a human med and you can fill the prescription at any human pharmacy. A nauseated cat will not eat even on apetite stimulant. Ater you get her on the anti nausea then you can try the apetite stimulant again. Please do all of these things, especially syringe feeding her, if you can’t take her back to the er so she has a fighting chance.

did you see my questions about whether or not they did an ultra sound to rule out IBD and tested for pancreatitis? It’s a process of elimination so if she was tested for both, you move on to the next thing. Can you find a new vet or a cat specialist near you?

This is very worrying. A diabetic cat who is not eating, and is not being given insulin and has an infection has all the ingredients in the recipe for DKA(diabetic ketoacidosis ). I know she had no ketones a few days ago but that can change hourly.
you can test for ketones by getting a bottle of Ketostix from Walmart or a pharmacy and testing the urine. If she has any ketones she needs to be seen by a vet. DKA is a deadly illness and must be treated urgently by a vet. Is there another vet you can go to?

She needs an antinausea medication urgently as well.
I can’t stress strongly enough that this kitty needs to be seen urgently by the vet to eliminate ketones and get started on an antinausea medication.
She must start eating and she must start having the insulin again for her to get better. I see Ale has mentioned syringe feeding

The problem with a cat not eating for more than a day or two can involve the kitty developing hepatic lipidosis (i.e., "fatty liver"). This can be a medical emergency. Please monitor to make sure your cat's not becoming jaundiced.
