Cat in the 400s BG all day

Blackberry (13yo) diagnosed diabetic in 2016, not an overweight kitty. Has been on Levemir for the last 3.5 years. Only 1u. Had a few scares (hypo and acidosis) over the years but has been doing great. Haven't done too many curves as temperament, behavior, and vet checkups have been good.

Anyway, today he seems more thirsty than usual so doing a curve and he has been in the 400s all day long. Not other behavioral signs. I will continue to the curve. His number are always all over the place. Sometime high, sometimes low, sometime perfect. We have never been able to get consistent readings throughout the week.

I am not even quite sure what I am asking but this group is always supportive when i google questions or have used in the past! Regulating this is so dang difficult! Is 1u too little? I fear if we go higher in insulin he will drop too low as has been done in the past. He has been on 1u for about 2 years. But has taken higher doses when he was first diagnosed.

Can you update your ss with any tests you were able to get in the past 3 weeks? It’s impossible to know about dosing with any data. I only see a ss for 2019. Maybe gave your vet run a fructosamine test? He sounds like he definitely needs more insulin. Any kidney disease or pancreatitis or ok except for teeth?

A cat's insulin needs can change over time. Has anything changed recently with Blackberry, or his food? When was the last time he had a vet checkup and blood work done? High numbers could either be a bounce from going low so the dose is too high, or he needs more insulin. It's hard for us to say which scenario it is without more data.
