While we await the results of a culture, the pain from my girl, Weeble's UTI has really increased. She's crying and pacing around the house. Any suggestions for what I can do to soothe the pain in the meanwhile?

She's a 3-week-OTJ kitty with IBD and early kidney disease.

Thanks.

Amanda

You need some pain meds like Buprenex or tramadol. However, they are both prescription drugs. However, tramadol is commonly used human drug. Why not call the vet and get a script?

I apologize if you posted about this earlier, but I have some questions: Is she still able to urinate? If not, get her to the ER immediately - blockage (rare in a female, I must say) is a veterinary emergency.

Even if she can pee, it sounds to me as though Weeble is in distress. If I were the individual feeling like that, I'd sure find a way to take care of it. So, I would take her to the ER to get pain relief if it were my girl. I don't think there is anything else you can do...sorry. Laura

She can pee--I should have made that clear, sorry. Unfortunately, the only Dr. I trust with medication (she's on Cisapride which has a lot of interaction warnings) is definitely not in today, so I guess I'll just have to wait until tomorrow. She throws up in any car trip longer than 3miles, so I don't know that I'd be doing her any favors with an ER trip.

She seems a bit better after a pee/poo visit to the litter box and is napping behind her favorite curtain.

Thanks for the suggestions all. Still feel terrible--I guess I was hoping there was some magic potion of which I wasn't aware. Alas...

If you have fluids on hand, I'd give 50ml 2x/day (I am not a vet nor vet-tech).

For people, they always recommend drink lots of fluids for UTI. Helps flush the bacteria
out of the bladder.

Kitty will feel a little better if urine is dilute.
