I have some cat grass, and gave it to Poe one time, but he barfed after having it. He likes it, alot, but the barfing worries me. Is this a normal response? In the past, I had indoor/outdoor cats that ate regular grass and the same thing happened, but they were not diabetic (never had dry food, lived to be 18 yrs old).

Just wondering about this..

Thanks

So...I guess my next question is why? As long as he likes it and it's ok to give him and the barf is normal ohmygod_smile , then I'll live with it.

My concern with grass is the amount of sugar in it. I ride horses (they can be sensitive to sugar too!) and certain times of year we have to be careful with how much time they have out on the grass. I don't know if it's the same with the type of grass that cats eat though... confused_cat

Most of my cats vomit after eating grass. I've wondered if Furball should be allowed to eat grass. I didn't know if her throwing up would make her BGs wacky or not.

Gosh I did not know that grass had sugar in it. I'm guessing that it would not be a good idea to let a sugar cat eat it?? I always thought that it was good for their digestive systems to eat it. If they were in the wild they would eat it. I will do some research and see what information I can find on the subject.

Here's a bit about sugar in grass. What I don't know is if a. the type of grass they sell for cats is stressed enough to produce much sugar and B. if a cat eats enough for it to matter. Obviously a horse eats a good deal more grass than a cat. :-D

I haven't been able to find any info, but report back if you do! I know Nikki would love some cat grass but I've been worried about giving her access to any....

Buster eats grass and barfs it up all the time (he's indoor/outdoor). I have not noticed any wonkiness with numbers when he does. I think we have a combination of bermuda grass and winter rye? I don't know if that makes any difference. Seems to be a favorite cat thing to do.

Well, sugar or not, I'm not keen on cleaning up the barf...

I had bought a little bag of grow-it-yourself, so there's not much there, but it grew real quick, and he does like it. I'd rather he have catnip since he won't eat that

I used to call my two cats cows, because they would go outside and graze all the time. And they only would throw up occasionally. In the winter time, and when I go on vacation in the summer and leave Ginger locked in the house (with a petsitter) I grow grass for her to eat. Cats do love grass. Mine do at least. They seem to just eat the very tips of the blades.

Yep, mine mostly all throw up too. Instead of the expensive cat grass, I grow wheat. It's one of the seeds in there anyway, the one that usually grows the best. Feed store has it but I'd just go to a granary in the area and pick up a bit off of their spills - just ask, they'll say yes. I got a bunch from a little overspill along the RR tracks. I grow it year round....never raises KT's bg.

BIG HUGS!
