Set a timer on my phone for 60 seconds and counted smokys breaths. He is down to 32 breaths per minute, he was at 36 last night. I'm hopeful the breathing issues will resolve on their own.

I hope so too, Lisa. Will keep Smoky in my prayers. Keep the updates coming when you have them 'cause we worry when we don't know how things are going.

Me too. I think it's more accurate that way. I do have to wait for the little guy to go to sleep first.
I agree about counting over a minute being a better method. I'm so glad that there's improvement in his breathing rate. Fingers crossed that it continues. How does he seem to be feeling otherwise - eating, elimination, etc.?

He is eating well, I need to update his eating amounts on SS. He is peeing less and bowel movements are getting firmer.
I am trying to get more water in him as he is a little dehydrated. Any ideas on how to do that? I don't think he feels that great, has been spending a lot of time laying next to baseboard heater. He was out more before and now hiding a little.

Smoky's PMPS was 301. He seems to be doing pretty well on the 2.25u for now anyway. Continue with same dose tonight? I feel comfortable giving him that for pm.

I always add warm water to Teasel's canned food to make a sort of stew. It's a good way to hydrate them if they'll eat their food that way. If he's underweight he feels the cold more so is probably more comfortable near the heat. He's been through the wars the past few months and you've only just started getting a handle on his diabetes. Take heart in the better blood work results and that he's eating/eliminating OK. It can take a while in better numbers for them to feel better, gain weight, etc.

Yes, stay with 2.25 u tonight.

Smokys bloodwork shows that his high liver values have gone down quite a bit. His thyroid and kidneys are working well.
His spec fPL number has gone down, have to pick up a copy of lab results from vet yet. He had shown signs of anemia but tests show an increase in red blood cells which vet says is good.

Good news, Lisa! How's Smoky's resp rate today?

BTW, B12 can help with anaemia issues.

(For info, Tanya's Site advocates conservative B12 dosing for CKD kitties.)

He was 30 breaths per minute while awake and 28 while asleep. At this rate, he won't need to have any procedures done.:)
This is so great! I'm really glad this seems to have resolved on its own. I'm still sticking with the theory that his hard fall from the chair caused it.

Smoky seems to be recovering and his respiration rate has gone down a little more. It is around 28 while awake and 25 while sleeping. He is nauseous so gave him a 1/4 tab of cerenia last night. I'm thinking it might be his pancreatitis acting up.

Could be. Will he eat? Do you have pain meds?

He is eating well but the vet didn't give me pain meds for him. She doesn't like to do that unless really necessary. That's why I have been talking to a few other vets in my area.

Smoky seems to be feeling a little better. I think the Denamarin which has anti inflammatory properties is working for him. Also, the cerenia I gave him last night is helping him to feel a lot less nauseous.

I recall you saying that. I'm glad he's eating well. The Cerenia must be doing its work. Is he showing other signs of discomfort or distress?

I'm glad he's feeling better. I have no experience with Denamarin.

It's a supplement I give to him to help his liver and bowels. It can also help with pancreatic problem. I'm giving him pm shot soon. He was 239 for pm so am thinking 2.25u will be a good dose for him tonight.
