Zoe, my cat, 15 years old diabetic for the past 4, just had an hypo. She usually get 1/2 U twice a day, and today she was acting weird, and I found her to be 2.3. Administered dry food and honey, and she went up to to 5.2. However, she won't stop acting weird, circulating the room, just not responding to me, constantly walking ....she has never done this before, her blood is now normal. Her ears are extremely hot. I am worried that she is not seeing properly.
Not sure what to do.

Temporary blindness can be caused by a hypo. Even though her blood glucose is now normal, she may have suffered neurological effects and should probably be seen by her vet. That's the best advice I can offer. Good that you are home testing and if we can help in any way regarding her future insulin dose, let us know. She should probably not receive that much insulin again. Cats can be more sensitive to insulin after a symptomatic hypo.

Thanks for your reply. I don't know if it is possible to reduce her dose more than 0.5 U , which is what she is getting now, and to hypo on that dose...it's hardly visible in the syringe, yet if I don't administer it, her blood goes up. She is now drinking a lot, and still seems blind and confuse to me...

Please watch her carefully, and don't give any insulin tonight - and call your vet first thing in the morning.

Can you give us some more information on her? What are her usual sugar levels, what food do you feed, how old is she, and how long has she had diabetes, etc. ? Thanks.

Good catch, by the way. She is lucky that you are observant and are hometesting.
