.6 seems to be working pretty well. He's still running high, but getting a decent drop, and the preshots are generally going down. I managed to find a reasonably close source of Evo dry this weekend, so we're in the process of working on a diet switch. He ate the sample fairly well mixed with his Purina Indoor Cat Chow, so right now the feeder has a 50/50 mix of Evo Chicken and Indoor Cat. After a week or so I'll up the % of Evo. I know he should be on wet food but he won't come anywhere near it right now. I figure the Evo is a safe compromise.
His brother dearly loves FreshPet Select Roasted Chicken (in the refrigerated section of the pet food aisle). I can't find any "as fed" values for it, but it looks to be reasonably low carb. After a few bites the first day, Cassie hasn't touched it, either. It's about the consistency of kibble, but with no crunch.
We go to the vet tomorrow for a curve and a post-DKA checkup. I'm hoping for a good report. After this I'll do my own curves, but the vet can check for ketones; apparently Cassie doesn't have a regular litter box schedule and I haven't been able to catch him in about a week to check. With 2 cats the aquarium gravel trick doesn't work as well. The only way to know whose pee I'm checking is to catch them in the act.
Cassie appears to be feeling pretty good. I managed a good game of "bat the string" this weekend--the first real play I've seen since he came home. Made me happy. We also got some good purr and pet sessions this weekend. Too bad I have to work today...
