Here goes nothin'

+12 303 1/2 can friskees
Ketones=0 yesterday

Will try waiting to +18 to test. Kinda nervous...

Re: Cassie 12/9 pm otj trial

Have you done the food test with him yet to see if his P is working? Test 2 to 3 hours after food, if his bg's drop down, Mr. P is pitching in.

Good luck.

Re: Cassie 12/9 pm otj trial

+14 405 food spike
+16 351
+18 364 1/4 can friskees

So he came down on his own (some) after.food, but he's still running higherthan I'm comfortable with. He's 100-150 pts higher than usual. Unless he goes LOTS higher I'm gonna hold off and see what.happens.

Re: Cassie 12/9 pm otj trial

It looks like his P is healing but just isn't quite there yet. You will need to support his P with insulin for a while longer. I'm sorry. I was hoping for you.

Re: Cassie 12/9 pm otj trial

+24 269  1/2 can friskees

Hoping this isn't a fluke...not giving up yet.

Re: Cassie 12/9 pm otj trial

+30 271 1/4 can friskees
+36 283 1/2 can

Glad I waited.

That's 2 whole cycles w/out insulin and he's running about.275. Still diabetic, but better than some of the numbers he got w/insulin. Now what?

Re: Cassie 12/9 pm-10 otj trial now what?

short story
about on year ago I was convinced that shakes did not need insulin...
so I stopeed for 2 days...his numbers where just like Cassie's
he was high 300 to 400 after food and then his P would kick in and arounf +12 he was 274ish
I would feed, he would rise then come back down to 270ish....so back on insulin he went

Re: Cassie 12/9 pm-10 otj trial now what?

I know he still.needs insulin, and probably more than he was getting. The question is how big I sose do I start back on? I'm leaning towards .4u, but is that too big a jump?

I'll hold off at least until tonight so people can give me somw input. Thanks in advanve.

Re: Cassie 12/9 pm-10 otj trial now what?

I was leaning towards .5u, but only if you can be there in between shots to check him around the middle.

Re: Cassie 12/9 pm-10 otj trial now what?

+42 295

I'll be around tomorrow but we still have.a week of finals. I should be able to check around +6 most days but my schedule's weird this week. Would it be safer to stay with .2u until I'm around more? I'll prob dose him at usual shot time tonight (about 6 hours).

Re: Cassie 12/9 pm-10 otj trial now what?

You have to make this fit into your life, Lisa. Maybe .4 on a day you will be around and see what happens that cycle and during the night.

Re: Cassie 12/9 pm-10 otj trial now what?

If you can be there tomorrow, try the .4. From zero to .4 should show a result, so you'll know how much it can do. That might determine how you feel next week when you are taking finals. If, say, it only drops him to low blues, you'll know it's okay even if you aren't around all day.

Re: Cassie 12/9 pm-10 otj trial now what?

Thanks, Carl. That's what I was thinking. And, for the record, I'm not taking finals, I'm giving them. Of course, that means I have to grade them, which is just as bad!

what do you teach?

College-level math: algebra, trigonometry, geometry, math history. Also math education clasd for people who are going to be teachers.

Re: Cassie 12/9 pm-10 otj trial now what?

Awesome! I heart math! But dealing with Cass, that means you can never get away from numbers!

Re: Cassie 12/9 pm-10 otj trial now what?

I was all set to shoot .4u and then Cass threw a curveball:

+48 185

Gonna have to let this play.out.a bit longer.

wow, so Cass still hasn't had a shot since PMPS on the 8th? I mean, your SS is up to date on shots?

Can you put the numbers in that you've gotten since then? Maybe we can figure out the food timing and what the food has done and what his pancreas has done....

this is awesome, Lisa!
Carl

Yes, his last dose of insulin was at 3am on Friday the 9th; it looks like PMPS for the 8th on the SS. I've updated everything. He's not out of the water yet, but he's better off than I thought. The afternoon check isn't as great.

+60 238

He gets 1/2 a can of friskees at "shot time" (which looks like +6 on the SS) and 1/4 can 6 hours later (which looks like ps; remember he was doing the wonky schedule thing and got off track). He usually inhales everything fairly quickly, although the larger portion may take an hour or two since part of it's frozen. Except the first day I've just been checking at 6 hour intervals, so the numbers are essentially "fasting." He did come down on his own after eating, even on the high numbers that first day.

I have been following along with your trial, but I admit that I have not read every post. I just want to confirm that you are testing for ketones while you are not giving insulin.

Good Luck!
