Carl spiked to 576 new to lantus

Short version, Carl’s number went up 200 points in 11 hours, I know the reason, it’s food. Do I need to do some thing specific to bring the numbers down quickly? Do I need to increase the dosage?

Carl had pancreatitis, inappetence since Friday 7/11. Cerenia mirtazipine oncedrine, fluids and force feeding until he began eating small bits on Wednesday. He did get out of his room and ate regular cat food. he was out again this morning and I discovered the latch was broken. Fixing that today. Carl is what I call indoor feral. He is friendly if I keep him closely confined but if he is loose in the house he becomes very fearful and hides. He waits for a chance to get outside and then disappears for weeks so I’ve got him barricaded in the back of the house.

In the meantime his number went from 398 last night at short time and now 12 hours later it first read “hi” and second d reading it’s 576.

Will attempt urine test

do I need to increase his dose by .25 or .5? Do I need to try to get him into a vet today? I went ahead and gave him his dose for this morning of 1.5U

Thank you

When you ask for dose advice, please have the spreadsheet up to date. I only see day for two days ago.

Don't worry about the sharp rise at the end of the schedule. I'm glad you stuck with the same dose. It takes 5-7 days to build the depot. If ketones are present the suggestions may change. Good luck getting that ketones test.

Thanks I updated sheet. It is difficult for me to enter data. Is there a way to speak it in?

Removed urgent from post.

I appreciate you

I'm not sure that there's a way to dictate into a spreadsheet. You'll have to practice on your system or do a Google search to see if it's possible.

The reason for the spike in numbers may not be food providing that Carl is on a low carb diet (i.e., less than 10% carbs). We encourage everyone to get at least 4 tests per day -- your pre-shot tests (AMPS, PMPS) and a minimum of one test during both the AM and PM cycles. Without the PM test, you have no way of knowing if Carl's numbers were lower in the evenings. Many cats experience lower numbers at night -- cats tend to nocturnal. Without the PM tests, you have no way to know if numbers drop low or lower than usual. In addition, you're missing half of your data.

If numbers drop into a lower range than. your kitty is used to, it can trigger a bounce. With bounces, the numbers spike upward. So, while it may be that food is the culprit, it may also be that Carl dropped into a lower range and that's what caused the jump into the 500s.

If you're using an iPhone and the Google Sheets app, you can dictate numbers by hitting the microphone button on the button right of your screen. I just tested it out.

Thank you! I do it that way butit doesn't work very well. It doesn't capture all of the words I speak, the microphone stops after a few letters. I need to be able to speak something along the lines of: "date, tab, 320, tab, 1.5, tab, tab, 289, tab, tab, tab" rather than having to tap the next field. I think I can transcribe into notepad then import. I'm looking at assistive apps as well.
